We have exciting opportunities to join our leading-edge Graduate Programme for Graduate Data Insight Analyst - The roles are for start from September 2022

The Data Insight Analyst role will report into the Data Insight Practice Lead, which will initially report into the ERP & Data Platforms Manager.

The role will deliver into client facing projects in addition to back-office corporate services; the emphasis of the role will initially be on internal corporate work, moving to client facing projects across all our UK clients as part of professional development.

Attainment of qualifications in ITIL, Agile and at least one Microsoft or Oracle professional accreditation during your first year in the role is desired but not essential.

About the project

BSG is Costain’s internal function for business systems and technology, supporting our corporate and project IT requirements. Together with the broader Technology Capability function, we are driving Costain’s position as the UK’s leading provider of Engineering Technology solutions.

BSG delivers technology platforms using ITIL & Scrum methods applied to Oracle, Microsoft, and 3rd party products & services. We apply governance and cyber-centered expertise to maintain Costain’s ISO, cyber and associated accreditations. We express our technology processes within The Costain Way and our services via our Service Catalogue. 

Costain is creating new technology-based value offerings for our projects and clients, based on the Smart Delivery Platform (SDP) and on emerging Data Insight services.

BSG is increasing our focus on creating business process efficiencies and data insights, using the information within our corporate systems and project SDP instances. In expanding the team, we are looking to appoint a number of Data Insight Analyst roles. 

Current key locations are:

Maidenhead, Manchester and some home based work

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver and maintain the ongoing development of BSG’s data insight products and services
  • Create insight and efficiencies in business processes and in data-related value offerings
  • Foster value creation using the organization's data assets, as well as the external data ecosystem. This includes aiding value creation through data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies, as well as enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, process efficiency and enterprise information policy
  • Utilise and optimise industry-standard business processes, to foster standardization and efficiency in our projects and back-office functions
  • Provide and maintain technology expertise and personal accreditations (included, but not limited to Microsoft and / or Oracle technologies, including: PowerBI, Dynamics 365, Office 365, Azure; or equivalents such as Cognos, SAP Business Objects, Amazon Web Services etc.

Costain's Graduate Development Programme

The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal and leadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills you will learn day-to-day on the job.

The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years and will allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and support you through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company.

Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. 
In addition to the programme, we offer mentoring and support in every area of work, as well as a structured training programme to enable graduates to work towards achieving Chartership.

Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting and progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels. 

About you:

  • These roles require a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related study (or equivalent project-related experience)
  • Logical, concise, persuasive & passionate communication skills
  • Effective conceptualization, pattern recognition and logical decomposition skills
  • Familiarity with data science concepts, as well as MDM, business intelligence, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques
  • Ability to assess rapidly changing technologies and apply them to business needs
  • Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
  • IT proficient, ideally using Microsoft or Oracle technologies 
  • Experience of designing, implementing, and supporting information solutions
  • Hands-on experience with Office 365, Dynamics 365 or PowerBI is preferred
  • Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team
  • A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
  • Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships 
  • The ability to thrive in pressured situations
  • The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills
  • Mobility to work on various projects over the 2-year programme throughout the UK

As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site
