We have an exciting opportunity to join our leading edge graduate programme for Graduate Quantity Surveyor – Consultancy. The role will start from September 2022.

Key tasks and Responsibilities

Every project is different. The duration of a project may range from a few days to produce a report, or years on a major framework supporting the client’s commercial activity. The main role of the Graduate Quantity Surveyor is to assist in administration and management of costs and contracts relating to projects. The role may involve all aspects of work from the initial tender to final account and close out, seeking to minimise the costs and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality. This role will work under the close direction and supervision of a more senior quantity surveyor.

Each client is different. The role may require you to provide commercial support to a local government authority or work with a major highly regulated public client.

The range of services may include:
 

  • Being part of a commercial team administering multiple NEC ECS’s on behalf of a client, raising EWN’s NCE’s and Applications for Payment
  • Management of the supply chain packages or Main Contract packages on behalf of a client
  • Provide support to the commercial and wider team where necessary
  • Scoping packages, quantifying works, collating enquiry documentation, issuing tender enquiries, analysing tenders including documenting queries
  • Implement commercial procedures and reporting to ensure compliance with company and contract requirements
  • Ensureappropriate commercial records are maintained in line with the contractrequirements
  • The programme will focus on helping you to grow your personal andleadership skills, alongside business and of course, the technical skills youwill learn day-to-day on the job.
  • The programme is delivered in a variety of formats throughout the 2 years andwill allow you to establish a network of contacts that will help and supportyou through your first 2 years and beyond. We expect some of our graduates torotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the businessto fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by thecompany.
  • Graduates may have the opportunity to work on a number of excitingand progressive projects around the UK during the 2-year period, in sectorsincluding nuclear, highways, rail, water, airports and tunnels

About you

  • You will have or expected to achieve a goodresult at degree level in Quantity Surveying
  • You must have goodcommunication skills (written and oral)
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Have passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
  • IT proficient
  • Able to work accurately and appreciate its importance to the team
  • A willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
  • Excel at building and maintaining positive relationships
  • The ability to thrive in pressured situations
  • The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of theirbackground or circumstances
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and time management skills
  • You will have the ability and flexibility to work across the UK
  • Active Security Clearance, or ability to hold SecurityClearance is considered beneficial

As some of our project sites are based in remote locations, it is worth noting that you will be required to have the ability to travel to site.
