Working in our newly refurbished Swindon design centre, you will benefit from best in class facilities alongside some of the world’s leading engineers in mixed signal IC design. You will work with cutting-edge technologies with some of our largest customers that lead the way in developing ICs for the latest Smartphones, Tablet PCs, Portable media devices and wireless audio. Swindon has continuously been at the forefront of engineering technology and with good travel links to London, Bristol and Bath, it is well known for its green areas and outdoor family activities. There is plenty to discover across the West Country.

What you'll do

  • Support the Operations and Maintenance of the Linux infrastructure
  • Provides global monitoring of systems for stability and performance
  • Act as a first and second level helpdesk including troubleshooting problems
  • Help to improve the Engineering IT environment
  • Maintains internal documentation such as wikis, configuration guides and technical documents
  • Provides on call and standby support for work scheduled outside of business hours.
  • Creates a positive work environment through communication and collaboration with colleagues
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills in a challenging environment

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills including ability to convey technical information to non-technical users.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Red Hat, Oracle or Centos Linux administration.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of implementing and using system monitoring solutions such as Nagios/Cacti/Ganglia or similar
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common physical and virtual server configurations
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of networking including firewalls, routers, switches, VPN and bonding

Desirable

  • Experience of using scripting languages common to Linux systems e.g. bash, tcsh
  • Experience of integrating Linux servers with NetApp
  • Experience of using virtualization products such as VMware or Xen to create services
  • Experience of managing remote desktop solutions such as Turbo X or Exceed on Demand
  • Experience of using Windows Server software including Active Directory
  • Experience of configuration management systems such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible
  • Experience of version control systems such as GIT or Bitbucket
