Our engineering approach starts with different thinking.  Then we continuously refine our ideas – unwilling to compromise and driven by an obsession for finding a better way.

Procurement Engineering is a new and exciting function that sits at the very heart of Dyson product development. Our team is a blend of commercial and engineering skillsets, and we work very closely with our colleagues in NPI, Research, and Engineering. Our team supports and develops the sourcing and supply chain strategies for new technologies that will help define Dyson’s future success.

At our UK Technology Campus, we have opportunities for a 12-month year in industry (starting in the September 2022), for penultimate year students who are eager to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.

About the role

Our scale and rapid growth make Dyson rich in new opportunities. Join us as an intern and from day one you’ll working on one of Dyson’s many live projects and have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the evolution of Dyson technology.

As part of the Global Operations & Procurement Team, we lead and drive upstream procurement activity across all product categories for the newest technologies and early supplier engagement. We work collaboratively alongside Research and NPI from the very start of the product development process to ensure we are building robust new supply chains that have optimum cost, quality, and performance outcomes.

As an intern in the procurement engineering team, you will:

  • Hit the ground running, getting deeply involved in many live projects across all Dyson categories and helping to deliver best in class technology to market at the right price.
  • Build up both a technical and commercial understanding of various commodity and technology areas, with a focus on Materials and Sustainability, supported by experts both at Dyson and from wider industry.
  • Learn how to interact with a global supplier base and become an independent focal point for engineering and supplier interaction.
  • Influence upstream sourcing decisions, defining parts and suppliers that will be used on future Dyson projects.
  • Learn how to carry out thorough due diligence activities and develop the necessary skills to qualify prospective new suppliers.
  • Broaden your professional network, both within Dyson with our senior NPI and research stakeholders, and external to Dyson with suppliers and partners.
  • Have the opportunity to undertake on-site visits to suppliers based both in Europe and the Far East.

The successful applicant for this role will join either the Procurement Engineering (materials) or the Electromechanical team, sourcing a range of product critical commodities for our newest projects. This role will focus on developing our special commodities areas; those diverse technologies that don’t fit the norm.

For the duration of your internship, you will have regular performance conversations as well as opportunities for development to enable you to build your reputation within the team, and this could be just the start. We’ll be looking to offer our high performing interns to return on our graduate programme.

About you

Our internships are competitive and delivering the next generation of Dyson technology is tough, so you’ll need to be:

  • Studying toward a degree in any engineering/technical or commercial discipline, but motivation and attitude are important to us.
  • An undergraduate seeking a 12-month placement, graduating in 2024. Exceptions may be considered for 5-year courses.
  • Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities.
  • Passionate about new technologies; we want people who are always looking to find a better option.
  • Inquisitive personality with a desire to learn new skills and ways of working.
  • Analytical mindset: effectively collect the necessary data and use evidence to support strategies and decisions.
  • Agile mentality, able to adapt to the changing requirements and business needs.
  • Team player, working as part of a collaborative group on challenging, but exciting, projects.
  • Comfortable in presenting your point of view, both in a team environment and to wider stakeholder groups.

Above all, you will be passionate about Dyson and willing to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson products into the world.
