Our 12-month industry placements run from September 2022, giving you the opportunity to gain valuable experience whilst complementing your studies and personal and professional growth.

Your placement will be split into 4 mth postings into our three main industrial regulation business areas, which are Operations, National Permitting and Environment and Business.

During your placement with us you will gain experience and develop skills in areas such as:

  • Data management and analysis
  • Regulating the environment
  • Evaluation of environmental impact
  • Industrial Transition for carbon reduction
  • Development of environmental standards
  • Enforcement
  • Environmental Incident management
  • Partnership working
  • Public engagement

You will see direct impacts of the work we do in the environment and understand how we work with operators of industrial facilities to ensure that the industry we regulate is sustainable for future and provides benefit to society without causing harm to people or the environment.

The team

In Operations you will work alongside our regulatory officers who regulate industrial installations such as chemical plants, power stations and cement works.

In National permitting you will support our permitting officers in assessing applications from industry for permits to undertake new activities or modifying permits to implement new regulatory requirements.

In Environment and Business you will work alongside our senior advisors on policy implementation for regulated industry, providing technical support to our regulatory activities.

Experience/skills required

You will be someone with a genuine interest in the environment and be passionate about creating a better place for people and wildlife. You will be flexible in your approach and have determination to make positive change happen.

We are looking for applicants who are studying or recently studied a manufacturing or process engineering related degree.

You will have completed a minimum of two years of your degree course but will not have graduated before summer 2022.
