A Software Development Engineer position exists within the team which supports our in-house Manufacturing Execution System and SQL server databases. The successful candidate will work alongside the Senior SDE in the development and deployment of an updated MES system and related user interfaces which are used across multiple Filtronic sites. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Production and Engineering teams to ensure reliable system operation and will provide ongoing support for improvements through development of new dashboard/reporting tools and stand-alone applications. If sufficiently interested, the successful candidate could also be involved in writing device drivers for in-house designed and constructed electronic systems as used by several blue-chip companies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the regression testing involved in the migration of the existing MES to a new system
  • Assist in the Database Lifecycle Management of SQL Server databases
  • Analyse, diagnose, and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
  • Support quality, manufacturing engineering, and production teams with system improvements and new applications to aid in continual improvement activities
  • Develop automated reporting tools
  • Compile supporting documentation for the developed solutions
  • Plan, organise, and manage own time in order to meet project requirements
  • Report project progress and risks to project teams and Software Team Leader
  • Participate in code peer reviews with other members of software team
  • Involvement with the complete solution lifecycle, including requirements review, design, implementation, testing, training, support, specifications, instructions, and change notes
  • Occasional travel to other Filtronic sites may be necessary

Skills/Attributes & Experience

  • Degree in a scientific subject e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Experience using C# and/or C++
  • Experience troubleshooting complex SQL statements
  • Some knowledge of MS SQL server
  • Some knowledge of database design, deployment, and maintenance is desirable
  • Familiarity with relational database management systems (RDBMS) is desirable
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative and self-motivated with a customer service ethic
  • Ability to multitask and context switch effectively between different activities
  • Flexible team player
  • Experience in a relevant industrial work placement is highly desirable
