About us

At the FCA, we help to protect financial consumers and make markets work well by regulating the conduct of over 59,000 businesses. Our ambition is to become a more innovative, more assertive and more adaptive regulator; one that fully capitalises on data and technology, ensures consumer protection and market integrity, and responds well to the challenges we face. We’re looking for bright, enthusiastic and values driven graduates to join our diverse and highly capable teams across the FCA.

About the Programme

  • Programme Length: Two years
  • Programme Type: Rotational

In Data, Technology & Innovation (DTI), we are transforming the way the FCA collects, manages, analyses and uses the data, intelligence and information we receive so that we can spot harm and act sooner, enabling us to more effectively regulate the firms we oversee. Our Data Analyst programme is one of the routes available to graduates in DTI.

Data Analyst Graduates will get exposure to the whole world of Data at the FCA. You will learn about the full data lifecycle and develop deep skills in understanding, engineering and analysing data. The graduate scheme will give you experience in data design and operations, data engineering and data analysis and visualisation. You could work in a range of teams across the FCA, supporting our regulatory colleagues from day one. This could include central data services driving change in our data operations and ensuring we have the foundations for success, market research to build consumer insights, bringing data to life through visualisations and dashboards, and analysing regulatory and open source data at scale to detect misconduct. Graduates on this scheme use a range of analytical techniques to derive insight from data and this insight derivation is a key interest for you, including time series modelling, forecasting and comfortable with statistics.

On this graduate pathway, you’ll need to understand how to structure and manipulate data, plug data into analytical tooling like Tableau and use simple SQL, with good sense of data architecture. In this stream you’ll be driven by a desire to create actionable insights from data and empower colleagues to make regulatory decisions through the data analysis and solutions you deliver. You will be excited by finding new data-sets to investigate and experiment with and telling stories through your data analysis and visualisation. You’ll also have an awareness of data quality issues and can appropriately flag impacts. You’ll also be comfortable using Excel and know some Python or R – but there will be opportunity to learn more on the job.

As you progress through the graduate programme, you’ll get the opportunity to rotate across the organisation. You’ll champion data techniques and support colleagues to become more independent in their day to day use of data, enabling us to become a truly data led regulator.

At the end of the programme you’ll have gained experience in data management, data analysis and financial services, working with diverse groups of stakeholders to solve real-world business problems.

Learning & Development

After our induction and initial training programme you will benefit from working on a variety of projects, allowing you to put your skills into practice.

Throughout your time at the FCA, you will be able to advance your capabilities through training initiatives. You’ll also be supported by our experienced colleagues, who will mentor you throughout your time on the graduate programme.
