Due to our ongoing growth we are currently recruiting for a driven and professional Quantity Surveyor to join our Birmingham Council contract. As a Quantity Surveyor you will provide proactive and timely support to the commercial management function. The Quantity Surveyor will take ownership of work, have great organisation skills, ability to forward plan and meet deadlines by prioritising work. The ability to manage and nurture the Assistant Quantity Surveyors and report up to the Managing Surveyor with a view on corporate strategy. You will receive training and full support.
Duties and responsibilities
Quantity Surveyor duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the parameters of the Contract and further commercial negotiations.
- Consistently promote the company values and procedures internally and externally.
- Ensure the project team achieve or exceed budgeted targets.
- Responsible for the application schedule of rates, acting as a subject matter expert for contractual arrangements.
- Maximise cash flow through monthly invoicing, the implementation of appropriate procedures to resolve client queries and ensuring cash is received when due.
- Monitoring and analysis of management information and job cost against job revenue, supporting the operations and finance and enablement of data driven decision making.
- Point of contact for dispute resolution.
- Identify potential disputes in a timely manner.
- Ensure Accurate Cashflow Forecasts and Revenue profiles are in place accurate and updated regularly.
- Supporting the Managing Surveyor in the preparation and timely reporting of information including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVR), Cost Value Comparison (CVC) and management accounts, providing governance of budgets through robust cost control.
- Ensure subcontractor orders reflect the main contract requirements and scope of work.
- Onboarding suppliers, this will include overseeing subcontractor order
- Accountable for line management and the development of the commercial team.
- Delivers robust change control and variation processes, including revisions to scope and the introduction of additional services.
- Ensure external valuations are submitted in accordance with conditions of main contract and that payments are received by the due date taking responsibility for the projects cash position.
- Provide early warning of future financial problems and ensure accurate real time reporting.
- Manage and minimise non recoverable costs.
- Manage, train, and develop junior staff.
- Price and agree variations.
- Correctly identify and prepare contractual notices for all events.
Essential and desirable criteria
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Essential criteria
- Good level of education to include 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above, A levels
- An industry related qualification
- Previous experience within a similar role
- Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V-Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development)
- Detailed knowledge of relevant contract conditions
- Experience of Management Accounts
- Full UK driving licence and a willingness to travel if required by the business.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Contract Law
- Professional Accountancy Qualifications or working towards Facilities Management/Accountancy or Construction related qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in significant & complex contract multi-disciplinary contracts.
