Gavia Environmental Ltd, a growing and dynamic Environmental Consultancy, is looking to appoint a Graduate or Assistant Hydrologist to support the growth of our hydrology team based in Glasgow. You will be joining an experienced team specialising in providing hydrology assessments primarily for renewable energy, utility and housing developments.

What you'll need

The key skills / attributes required for the Graduate or Assistant Hydrologist role are:

  • A good technical understanding of hydrological processes, current environmental issues and relevant UK legislation and guidance.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge in analysing problems and finding solutions to new challenges.
  • Ability to review evidence and produce succinct, accurate and timely summaries.
  • Ability to carry tasks out in accordance with the agreed scope of works, timescales and budgets.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills and IT literacy.
  • Ability to plan and undertake field survey programmes and investigations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the potential to engage and influence at all levels and to work effectively both within a team and individually.
  • Passion for the subject and enthusiasm to broaden environmental consultancy skills.

Essential

  • First degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or similar subject with hydrology related content.
  • For the assistant hydrologist role, several years’ relevant experience within the consultancy, water company or regulatory fields, ideally within the UK.
  • Full valid drivers’ licence.
  • Willing to attend site and competent working outdoors.

Desirable

  • Located within central Scotland (Glasgow office) but will consider remote working applicants.
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or similar subject with hydrology related content.
  • Experience of flood estimation methods, hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessment, drainage design / modelling and environmental impact assessment.
