Job Description Summary

The GE Aviation Systems "Edison Engineering Development Programme" (EEDP) is an IET Accredited Scheme for people with passion for technology, dedication to technical excellence and feel a connection to GE's core values.
The program is designed to accelerate your professional development through technical and leadership training, while working on a variety of live projects with responsibility for business-critical priorities.

Essential Responsibilities

Edison is a one of a kind programme combining continued study with experience of the full engineering lifecycle.

Exposing participants to all areas of a world leading global organization, participants have the opportunity to see first-hand, how ideas come to life. Edisons benefit from GE’s global breadth by working alongside other Edisons and project teams across the world. The Edison Programme is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself in an encouraging, harmonious environment, while gaining hands on experience of some of the most advanced engineering challenges in the world today.

The key elements of the programme include

  • Three or more rotational assignments, which may involve Systems, Software or Hardware Engineering, within Avionics or Power Distribution engineering projects, motivated by real GE business priorities
  • Development of Engineering Competencies towards Professional Registraion (IEng and CEng)
  • Bespoke GE Leadership Training Courses: "Innovate" and "Activating Your Leadership Journey (ALJ)"
  • Development of problem-solving and time management skills through Technical Classes, Workshops, Formal Reports and Presentations
  • Opportunities to meet with, and present to, influential GE Leaders
  • Opportunities to improve your Professional Development Skills, including Teamwork, Leadership, Understanding Self/Others and Presentations
  • The option to study for an MSc in Digital Electronic Systems Engineering
  • Volunteering Opportunities: Edisons are the focal point of GE’s culture and participants are strongly encouraged to lead the way in championing GE’s core values. Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's 2:1 (Hons), or Master’s, Accredited Engineering Degree in one of the following subjects:  Avionics, Electronic Engineering, Electronic/Electrical Engineering Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or similar
  • Work experience (including Placement/Internship) in an Aerospace or other similarly controlled Engineering Industry
  • Experience working in teams
  • An analytic, collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Dedication to a career in technology and a real passion for engineering
  • An understanding of our business and products

Desired Characteristics

  • An Accredited Master's Degree or equivalent knowledge & experience
  • Demonstrated Leadership Skills
  • Commitment to Personal Development, including membership of a Professional Institution (e.g. IET), and desire to work towards Professional Registration as an Incorporated and/or Chartered Engineer
  • A Passion for Community and/or STEM Volunteering.
