Education required

To apply for this placement, you must be:

  • Currently studying an Undergraduate Degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Business, Science, Economics, Supply Chain, Data Analytics or a related subject

Other requirements

  • You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) University for the duration of your placement.

If you have already graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and are currently studying a postgraduate Masters, you are not eligible for this programme.

Role 1: Supply and Logistics

Overview of the department

Supply & Logistics at Worthing site operates as a hub responsible to manage end to end flow of goods across different operations at the facility. You could work within one of several teams, including Production, Orals Manufacturing, Digital Data Analytics and Continuous Improvement. You will have the opportunity to get involved in all site functions and experience a wide range of processes but also will have the ability to learn transferable skills such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools, Digital and Analytics, and more. All departments require high levels of good manufacturing and documentation practices and a key focus on health and safety of all individuals working in the areas and sustainability focus to ensure we meet our ambitions on carbon net zero.

Key placement activities

  • Track against S&L Strategic objectives and supporting in driving projects.
  • Learn and develop digital solutions as part of SMART Manufacturing using AI, Power BI, Power Apps, and other tools.
  • Day to day attending Tier 1 and Tier 2 meetings supporting the business with takings actions, problem solving and collaborating with support functions.
  • Support Packaging Management team with Batch documentation and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Support and carry out continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain site capacity model (excel-based) up to date and conduct scenario-based studies.

Role 2: Business and Supply Chain – External Manufacturing

Global Supply Chain management is all about ensuring we can supply our lifesaving and life-enhancing products to people around the globe, but making sure that the right products arrive at the right time in the right place is no easy task. We offer a variety of supply chain placements, from forecasting demand, production planning, raw materials management, and data analytics, to warehousing and supply chain logistics. Whichever role you undertake, you’ll be fully immersed in the day-to-day and future plans of the role and in playing a key part in ensuring our products reach our patients and consumers in an efficient and timely manner.

Role 3: Supply Chain Planner

Overview of the department

The General Medicines Supply Chain team’s portfolio encompasses all of GSK's primary care medicines from pre-launch R&D assets to growth and established products. We have a total of over 100 people across Poznan, UK, Singapore, Panama, Turkey, Pakistan, Spain, France, Norway, Belgium and the US. We transformed our operating model in 2023 to drive best in class Process, Data and Capabilities in planning. We are playing a key part in delivering GSK’s sustainability ambition.

Key placement activities

  • Engage in day-to-day supply chain activities from Primary API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients) manufacturing through to Secondary manufacturing and packing.
  • Work cross-functionally with Commercial, Strategy, Quality, Technical, Logistics and Site Scheduling teams.
  • Support the monthly Sales & Operational Planning process to learning the concepts of balancing of cost and cash with service targets.
  • Work closely with site/global functions to deliver a supply plan that is balanced across multiple franchises through capacity planning and stock management.
  • Understand supply chain principles and apply analytical thinking to business situations and scenarios.
  • Use planning systems and digital tools to drive optimised planning and support key decisions.

Role 4: Logistics Shared Services & Supply Chain

Overview of the department

The Barnard Castle site is located in the Northeast of England is sited within the County Durham countryside. Barnard Castle is a key secondary site for GSK with a large number of New Products coming through development at site. We manufacture and supply a huge range of different pharmaceutical products from Sterile Products (Syringes and Vials) to Liquid Inhalations and Dermatologicals. We have recently opened a new state of the art aseptic digital facility producing biopharmaceuticals.

Key placement activities

  • Engage in warehouse inbound and outbound activities
  • Provide guidance and support for departments, global suppliers and contractors
  • Support new equipment introduction and new process implementation
  • Simplification and automation of our material scheduling processes
  • Data analysis of warehouse capacity and reporting on budget
  • Demand review (including gathering and understanding market intelligence on forecasts and supply chain complexities)
  • Assess inventory policy for consumable materials
  • Data quality improvements
