The GSK Consumer Healthcare (CH) Sustainability team was formed in September 2019 with a mandate to understand the landscape and define a Sustainability strategy for GSK CH. The team is close-knit and agile and sits in the wider Sustainability and Transformation Organisation in Consumer Healthcare. In working on this team, you have a unique opportunity to help build and drive forward our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which will be key for the new Consumer Healthcare company.

In November 2020, GSK, including Consumer Healthcare, announced ambitious new environmental sustainability goals in both climate and nature, aiming to have net zero impact on climate, and net positive impact on nature by 2030. The CH sustainability team is now hard at work progressing the roadmaps to meet our targets. Further information on the strategy and goals can be found here:

What will you do?

  • Analyse large and complex datasets and helping the team make strategic decisions based on conclusions from the data. This may include, for example, calculations of carbon footprints and water impacts to identify opportunities for reduction.
  • Research sustainability topics and trends and providing the team and/or stakeholders in the wider business with best practice recommendations
  • Work with stakeholders at different levels across the business to support our Sustainability projects
  • Opportunities to lead working groups on topics such as biodiversity, water, carbon and waste as part of wider business engagement activities.

You’ll be excited by the thought of:

  • Shaping a bold and ambitious ESG strategy as a key pillar of a new Consumer Healthcare company
  • Getting hands on experience evaluating the environmental impact of our products through the value chain, from raw materials through to consumer use
  • Working globally with sites and teams across the GSK network and providing guidance and support to the different business functions
  • Being part of a large student community and getting involved in organising events, taking advantage of training in both technical and soft skills, and volunteering to promise GSK CH at science fairs and fundraising for charities

You’ll need:

  • Strong communication, analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to work with large amounts of data, synthesise conclusions and recommendations, and share these in a concise manner
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work, with a high level of initiative
  • Ability to build good working relationships
  • Ability to research topics and trends in sustainability to bring the outside in, and distil recommendations back to the team and/or the wider business
  • To be self-motivated and natural team player
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at once and work flexibly when urgent matters arise
  • A passion for sustainability, although technical knowledge in the subject matter is nice to have, but not essential

Degree requirements

You must be studying a degree related to Sustainability, Environmental Management/Science, Engineering, Geography or Data Science. You will have completed a minimum of 2 years of your undergraduate degree, but will not have graduated at the start of your placement. You may be expected to provide evidence from your university to show you will be an undergraduate student for the duration of the placement year and they are supportive of your placement.

Benefits

  • A salary of £21,000-£22,500, plus a bonus
