Hargreaves Lansdown

Financial Services, Investment Banking & Asset Management

The West of England Black Interns Pilot aims to offer up to 50 paid internships to Black students living or studying in the region for 4 weeks in September 2021.

Inspired by the #10000BlackInterns initiative, the West of England Black Interns Pilot will help transform the horizons and prospects of Black students, living or studying in Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire by offering paid work experience across a range of sectors in the region, supplemented by training and development.

Background

The #10000BlackInterns programme was co-founded by Dawid Konotey-Ahulu (a co-founder of Redington Limited and Mallowstreet), Jonathan Sorrell (President of Capstone Investment Advisors), Michael Barrington-Hibbert (founder of Barrington-Hibbert Associates) and Wol Kolade (Managing Partner of Livingbridge), the group which founded #100BlackInterns in August 2020. The initiative has been designed to help transform the horizons and prospects of young Black people in the United Kingdom by offering paid work experience, providing training and development opportunities and creating a sustainable cycle of mentorship and sponsorship for the Black community.

In the South West, the Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees and the CEO of Hargreaves Lansdown, Chris Hill, have been inspired by the ambition and the simplicity of the #10000BlackInterns initiative. In order to maximise the impact on young people in the region at a time when unemployment is rising, Hargreaves Lansdown are launching the West of England Black Interns Pilot with the support of the Bristol City Council.

This initiative is a cross sector internship programme, offering Black students living or studying in the region the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within an organisation.
