Direct Commercial is our small business insurance division for customers purchasing insurance directly with us. We are proud to be a leader in specialist insurance. Creating customers for life is our mantra: doing the right thing, no matter how hard and walking away knowing you have made a positive difference is what keeps us going.

We have invested in building a direct business in the UK that now has over 120,000 SME customers, with the highest loyalty scores in the sector. The business now benefits from a market leading in-house Customer Experience Centre that manages sales and service calls from target customers, as well as state of the art systems.

We believes that the direct-to-consumer channel will become the dominant channel for the vast majority of specialist small businesses and that Hiscox is best placed to maintain profitable market leadership in this space. At present, the business contributes significant profit every year to the overall UK P&L, and following the investment of the past few years, it is also set up to significantly accelerate its future growth. We want to continue building a world famous company, loved by its customers and respected by its competitors.

The internship

During your time in the Direct Commercial team you will be helping to drive our growth strategy. As a high growth area we are constantly looking for new opportunities to grow and ensuring that our marketing, underwriting and contact centre teams are aligned on our plans, across York and London. You will have the opportunity to work on a number of projects to review our marketplace, using both our own internal data and also external data points. This may include analytical reviews of our sectors, and through this as well as working closely with our teams, you will gain a deep understanding of e-commerce as well as insurance.

As a business, we have adopted hybrid working, where we have a combination of time in the office and at home. In this role you can expect to be in the office approx. 2 days per week.
