About this role
H&MV Engineering is growing fast so this position presents a great opportunity for the right candidate. As part of our continuous improvement strategy, we are investing in technology, automation, and AI to streamline project delivery and enhance engineering quality.
We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team with a specific focus on efficiency, automation, and digital workflows. This role will play a key part in developing scripts, AI-based tools, and integrations that support power modelling, engineering automation, and commissioning processes.
The successful candidate will collaborate with multiple departments including Engineering, Commissioning, and Digital Delivery to develop scalable solutions that improve project execution and data standardisation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scripts to support power system modelling tools (e.g., ETAP, DigSilent, CYMCAP) and data workflows.
- Collaborate with engineers to identify repetitive tasks and develop software tools or automations to improve efficiency and consistency across engineering deliverables.
- Support the integration of AI and machine learning models into design processes, technical reviews, and data validation routines.
- Develop and standardise workflows within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and other digital delivery platforms.
- Work with the commissioning team to standardise and digitise test files, checklists, and configuration templates.
- Assist in building dashboards or tools that track engineering KPIs, quality metrics, and workflow progress.
- Help maintain internal technical libraries, script repositories, and version-controlled configuration tools. Stay up to date with industry trends in engineering automation, AI integration, and construction tech to introduce new ideas and technologies into the business.
What you'll need

- 3+ years of experience in software development or scripting within an engineering or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar scripting languages used for automation and data processing.
- Familiarity with power system modelling tools (e.g., ETAP, DigSilent, CYMCAP) and how they are used in engineering workflows. Experience building integrations or workflows within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Revit, BIM 360, or related platforms.
- Understanding of commissioning processes and standardisation needs in an EPC environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with non-software teams. Desired Skills: Exposure to AI or machine learning (e.g., model training, classification, NLP) and interest in applying it in an engineering context.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, protection relay settings, or commissioning file structures. Experience with APIs, database management, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure). Strong documentation and version control practices (e.g., GitHub/GitLab).
- Experience in the energy, utility, or construction sectors is a plus.
