What you can expect

Markets & Securities Services at HSBC provides Sales, Trading, Global Research and Securities Services requirement to major government, corporate and institutional clients worldwide, uniquely positioned to provide a bridge between emerging and developed markets.

Our end-to-end Securities Services business is dedicated to creating tailored services for clients worldwide, which include asset owners and managers and banks and broker dealers. HSBC Securities Services enables Interns to be placed in teams ranging from Digital & Data and Project Delivery through to Sales and ESG, providing you with a unique opportunity to develop your skills and network, and set you up for future success within HSBC Securities Services.

You’ll work alongside industry specialists, learning how the different areas of Markets & Securities Services work together to serve the broad range of needs of our clients. You’ll collaborate with a diverse community of peers who will encourage you to succeed. Our programme of training, delivered through interactive presentations, case studies and workshops, will help you keep up to date with the fast-paced environment of Markets & Securities Services. What you will do

In Securities Services, you will gain insight into a number of areas such as custody services, investment operations, fund administration and middle office services. Training and industry advice will be available throughout your internship. You will be part of our team, learning how we deliver regional and international services and handle end-to-end transactions in a way that protects our clients’ interests. You will work with peers and specialists to develop your skills and broaden your knowledge of securities services and how to offer a better client service in a world that is more regulated and competitively challenging than ever.

There will be plenty of people around to support you. You’ll be assigned a line manager and buddy, who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance, and provide a sounding-board for your ideas. There will be many opportunities to develop your network of contacts within Securities Services and beyond.

Learning and development

We take your learning and development seriously so that you get the most out of your internship. Your time with us will begin with a one-week induction that will give you an overview of HSBC, our business and culture, and how Securities Services within Markets & Securities Services fits into the overall structure. After this, your placement will provide you with a combination of practical experience and classroom training. This will help you to develop your technical skills and give you a detailed insight into our markets.

At the beginning of your internship, you’ll be set measurable objectives and receive feedback throughout the 10 weeks. There will be many people you can call on for support. Your manager will be able to give you guidance on your career options. You’ll be assigned a buddy to share ideas with and who you can call on for advice.

There will be regular business and social events to attend so you can build a network of global contacts, which will prove invaluable to you in the future.

What can this lead to?

Perform well and we'll consider you for our Securities Services Graduate Programme, where in your graduate programme, over a series of four, six-month rotations, you can explore placements including the likes of Project Delivery, Sales, Operations, ESG, Digital & Data or Business Management with the view to then rolling off the graduate programme and specialising.
