The role
This role is a 12-month internship starting in July 2022. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.
Your team:
- Illumina Lab Services (ILS) is a group responsible for providing a WGS (whole genome sequencing) service for Genomics England and the NHS. The group contains a variety of technical teams to enable the service to run smoothly at scale, including a software team which builds and maintains software used by scientists and operations to track and process large quantities of clinical genomic data.
- In the ILS software team, interns will join a collaborative, process-driven and fast-paced environment, that follows an Agile Scrum development methodology. You’ll get exposed to a variety of elements from the software development lifecycle, including developing code, code review, testing and deployment. There may also be opportunities to provide input into software specifications through requirements and design reviews.
Role and responsibilities
- Collaborate with software engineers, test engineers and product owners to bug-fix, maintain and improve full-stack applications and services in scrum teams.
- Ensure that software is developed following our software development life cycle and in accordance with our quality management system.
- Provide technical assistance to support queries.
About you
- Studying towards a computer science degree or a related engineering subject.
- Experience of coding in Python
- Web development experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript
- Any exposure to relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
- Comfortable at the Linux command line
The Selection Process

- Successful Applicants will be invited onsite to meet their teams April 11th, 2022 prior to starting in July 2022
