The role

This role is a 12-week internship starting in July 2022. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge, our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities. Over the 12-weeks post, the successful intern candidate will work with large and diverse datasets to increase our understanding of difficult regions of the genome and improve clinical utility of whole-genome sequencing.  This internship will provide an excellent opportunity to explore various aspects of Illumina’s sequencing technology, from early-stage platform development to its clinical impact with a specific focus on data quality.

Your team

We are part of the Advanced Sciences Genome Informatics team supporting the R&D organization with data analysis and software development. We mostly focus on:

  • Designing and implementing methods to assess sequencing data quality  
  • Developing variant calling benchmarking resources and tools 
  • Supporting development projects for new sample preps, new chemistry and new platforms 
  • Delivering tools for variant calling improvements  

Role and responsibilities

  • Data analysis and reporting  
  • Methods and algorithms development 
  • Presenting at internal meetings 

About you

  • Undergraduate or graduate student in bioinformatics, genomics, data science or related areas  
  • Comfortable with Python or similar computer languages  
  • Linux command line skills  
  • Familiarity with next generation sequencing data analysis is advantageous 
  • Good communication and office IT skills 

The Selection Process

  • Submit application before 10th December 2021 to be considered 
  • Longlisted candidates will be invited to submit a video application  
  • Shortlisted candidates must be available to interview 10th January 2022 onwards 
  • Successful Applicants will be invited onsite to meet their teams April 11th2022 prior to starting in July 2022
