The role

This role is a 12-month internship staring in July 2022, finishing July 2023. Based at our offices in Granta Park, Cambridge. Our program focuses on meaningful project work, professional and personal development, in addition to providing networking opportunities.

Your team

During your stay, you will be part of the research synthetic chemistry team, expert in all aspects of SBS, with an emphasis on nucleotides and dye chemistry. Your contribution will aim at improving efficiency, robustness and accuracy of Illumina's sequencing technology.

Role and responsibilities

After a shadowing period, you will work in collaboration with other team members focusing on:

  • Performing chemical synthesis experiments.
  • Performing purifications, analysis and characterization of products.
  • Delivering presentations to the team on a regular basis.
  • Generate reports.

Preferred experience and qualifications

  • 3rd or 4th year Student in Chemistry or highly related subject with a strong interest in practical synthetic organic chemistry
  • Completed coursework, practical laboratories in organic chemistry, and spectroscopy modules (e.g. NMR, MS, UV-Vis, Fluorescence)
  • Good communication skills
  • Keen interest in understanding the mechanistic aspects of scientific processes (e.g.: chemistry, biochemistry, enzymology,…)
