Our ES&T business – we are invested in you and your success. Everything we do – whether Aerospace, Defence, Intelligence, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Nuclear, Automotive, or Telecommunications – is more than just a project. It is our challenge as human beings, too. That is why we bring a thoughtful and collaborative approach to every one of our partnerships.

What you’ll be doing

At Jacobs, we’re transforming intangible ideas into innovative solutions designing the future today.

We are recruiting Civil/Structural graduates to our team based in Glasgow which specialises in solving the most complex and technically demanding structural engineering problems for the nuclear industry.

Each project is unique, but typically involves consideration of dynamic load effects due to extreme hazards, including seismic, blast, and impact. We have to look beyond code checks to get a deeper insight into structural response and failure mechanisms, considering ductility, nonlinear buckling, and soil structure interaction.  We work things out as a team, starting from first principles, researching methodologies, challenging assumptions, thinking outside the box, and constantly learning.

We work to the highest standards. Our complex analysis models are rigorously validated.  Everything we do has to be fully evidenced and justified through independent third party review and ultimately to the nuclear safety Regulators.  As a result, this is one of the most varied and challenging roles you can take on as a civil/structural engineer.

Our Graduate Development programme is recognised as one of the best in our industry and is accredited with several professional science and engineering institutes.

The programme is structured to provide you with the necessary technical skills and business acumen to advance your career toward Chartership.

For all graduates following our programme, we offer:

  • On-the-job training, with opportunities to develop wider technical and project delivery skills by working alongside experienced professionals
  • A strong mentoring culture, with each graduate assigned a dedicated mentor, a graduate buddy and a line manager/ supervisor to ensure they are supported in their personal and professional development

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Innovative thinking and adaptability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong focus on team working
  • You must have a minimum 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in a civils or structural related discipline. This can be a predicted grade if you are applying in your final year of study
  • You must have the right to work in the UK before you apply for this position, be willing to apply for UK Security Clearance, and be a sole (non-naturalised) UK national.

Ideally, here’s what you’ll also have

  • Relevant work experience in engineering/construction.
  • Proven interest in structural dynamics topics e.g. through dissertation.
  • 2:1 Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering

We want you to have unlimited learning opportunities and space for growth in order for you to work towards the next stage of your career.
