Job Purpose

To design, create and implement new gameplay features or content of various types such as new areas, quests, PvP content, minigames, skills or gameplay improvements. You must consider the narrative, gameplay, end user experience and technical implementation.

You are

You will

  • Design new, engaging game content suitable for our MMORPG, Old School RuneScape. You will often support design efforts for larger projects, or take the lead on design for small-mid sized projects, delivering a design that fits the project and unites the team behind it
  • Develop game content using the in-house scripting language, RuneScript. You are expected to create safe, efficient, reusable and maintainable script for your projects, utilising the knowledge of the wider development team to assist. You would be provided training in RuneScript as required
  • Utilise game and data driven insights to inform content design
  • Continuously learn more about the game and utilise the knowledge of the wider team to help inform your design and development decisions
  • Scope upcoming work and clearly detail requirements for dependencies on other disciplines, including graphics, QA and audio. This would be done with the support of a producer
  • Engage with the community via social media and livestreams in order to gain important insights and feedback on your own content, answer their questions where possible and build your own relationship with them. You will have the assistance of our Community Management team for this. This is important to Old School RuneScape’s player-driven focus
  • Utilise game and data driven insights to inform content design

You have

  • Relevant degree level education in Games Design/programming 
  • An avid interest in video games, with a desire to break down and discuss their key features
  • Good Programming and/or scripting skills
  • Knowledge and understanding in the basics of Game Design
  • Proven ability to collaborate with other creative people from all disciplines.  It is particularly important you can both receive and offer constructive criticism
  • Strong time management, general organisation & prioritisation skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written & verbal
  • Excellent critical thinking ability, allowing you to incorporate data into your decision making
  • A pro-active work ethic who can take on problem solving, without being afraid of the challenge
