The Role

From the Defender to XJ and Evoque to F-Type our design team has produced some of the most recognisable vehicles ever made, but we continue to look ahead as we design the next generation.
 
Our latest creation - the iconic Defender - has been re imagined by a new generation of designers, and you can join them to produce even more. With an appreciation of our customers’ expectations you’ll use your knowledge and creativity to transform the Colour & Materials Design teams material seeds into highly innovative product solutions through collaboration with engineering teams and external suppliers.
 
With ongoing support and opportunities to gain further skills everything you do will help us imagine the next generation of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles and keep us at the forefront of automotive design. Within our Creative function we have the following opportunity in the Colour and Materials team; 

Materials Engineer for Design
 
Our Colour & Materials Design teams work toward the creation and delivery of all vehicles.  You will support the Design team working alongside the Designers in the technical development of both interior and exterior materials from concept phase to production.

Through Challenging current Methods-of-Make to enable innovation and improved development of materials and coating systems you will help find more sustainable/responsible processes for our products.  With your strong technical background and collaboration with 3D Design teams, Internal craftsmen, external suppliers and our Engineering colleagues you will help to transform material concepts to deliver a blend of both performance and luxury for the future of transport that our customers see, feel and experience first-hand.

Requirements

As well as working towards a Materials Engineering degree at 2:2 or higher level, or a Masters in Materials Engineering, you will ideally be able to demonstrate the ability to work at pace with material engineers and testing labs to drive new solutions and help define new test specifications / parameters where required for new materials in the automotive / product design space. In addition, you will have the ability to identify reasons for test failures and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to re-engineer materials to be fit for purpose and ready for implementation.

You will have good knowledge and ideally a level of experience of product design approaches and processes which you will use to aid successful delivery of the Design teams’ deliverables through a corporate Product Creation System.

You will have confident presentation skills and the ability to interface with multiple stakeholders at all levels.  Your strong technical background and creative mind-set will support you to be involved in complex negotiations between Engineering and Design.

What you can expect from us

You will Join us on a starting salary of £29,000, you’ll also receive a £2,000 joining bonus to welcome you to Jaguar Land Rover.
