Propulsion

Fossil fuels have dominated automotive propulsion since cars were introduced, but our priorities are now very different. By the middle of the decade Jaguar will have undergone a renaissance to emerge as a pure-electric luxury brand and you have an opportunity to help shape this.  You will become a key part of the team, working in multiple departments across your two years, helping you develop a well-rounded understanding of the business.

As a successful Graduate in this area of engineering you will learn what it takes to deliver the high-quality propulsion systems of the future and become an experienced member of the propulsion engineering community. In order to develop your skills and competence to support this effort you will work in a range of different environments using a mixture of engineering tools - such as CAE, CAD, problem solving and data analysis techniques while working with the team you are in and their customer groups. The scheme will also feature a number of placements, including 1 non-product rotation.  You will work with your managers to identify placements suitable for your development and growth.

This will support the development of your technical knowledge at either component or system level from design to the operation of fully electric propulsion systems. In doing so you will gain a full understanding of the concept, design, development, optimisation and delivery of the components and systems that you work on which will start you on your journey to become a world class engineer with Jaguar.

You will have a systems view of the entire delivery landscape for their Commodities and/ or Systems, and will work closely with Programme Management, External Engineering Service Provider,  Jaguar Engineering, Purchasing and Manufacturing functions who are critical supply partners to create and deliver the final completed product. They will be accountable for delivery of sub system Quality-Cost-Time targets.

On completion of the scheme you could find yourself in one of the following areas:

Core Engineering

Core Engineering builds the precision and pride into every vehicle that inspires loyalty in our customers. Every conceivable aspect of the manufacturing process is overseen, refined and continuously improved and reinvented here.

Powertrain Engineering

Powertrain are leaders in the design, test, validation and certification of world class propulsion systems aimed at delivering driving experiences to our customers that they love for life.
The scope of the propulsion systems are far reaching and include major commodity groups such as engines, transmissions, drivelines, Electric Drive Units, Energy Storage devices and are complemented by software system integration, calibration and control strategies.

Research

Research covers all the different engineering elements that make up the car in the early stages of discovery, feasibility and invention. The team focuses on problem solving difficult scientific and engineering problems, doing technical feasibility, building prototypes (both physical and software), and creating proof of concepts. The team drives about 1/3 of new innovation patents for Jaguar Land Rover and is the driving spirit of innovation.

Special Operations (SO)

Special Operations is responsible for the most luxury and specialist vehicles within the premium brands of Jaguar and Land Rover. SO is home to diverse business areas and skillsets and you will have the opportunity to gain a breadth of experience during the graduate programme to suit your interests and skills.

SO comprises the following 5 areas:

• Special Vehicles (SV) - offers luxury and performance halo derivatives of Core models.
• Vehicle Personalisation - offers Accessories, Commercial vehicles, Armoured vehicles, SV Premium Palette Paint and SV Bespoke vehicles.
• Classic - Classic restores and recreates the most iconic past Jaguar Land Rover vehicles and maintains parts supply for classics.
• Event Vehicle Operations (EVO) - trusted providers of specialised vehicle preparation and event services to the whole business.
• Commercial – focuses on the Marketing, Sales, Communications and Service.

Reimagine Jaguar

The Jaguar Product Team is responsible for Product Strategy, Product Engineering, Programme Delivery and Product Lifecycle for all new Jaguar Land rover products. The Propulsion team within this will lead the development of class leading electric propulsion systems in conjunction with our external Powertrain and Engineering Partners. The Propulsion engineering teams utilise some of the most advanced techniques, facilities and knowledge to stay ahead of the competition, understand and predict customer demand, and respond quickly to changing technological, environmental and legislative factors that are driving the market.

What’s required

Excellence runs throughout our entire business, and we expect you to be the same. You will have or expect to achieve a 2:2 degree or higher in one of the following Engineering Degrees: Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, Chemical, Systems or Mechatronics. More importantly is a passion problem solving, the curiosity to understand a business problem and explore innovative solutions, the confidence to champion new initiatives, strong numerical skills and be an excellent communicator.
