The department

Distribution is responsible for the marketing, promotion and ongoing development of our product offering, for both institutional and intermediary channels globally. Distribution is a trusted partner to our clients and we enable investment solutions through active management. Areas within Distribution consist of Sales, Global Marketing, Global Product and Investment Trusts.

Overview of the role

You will work within the UK Institutional team reporting to the Head of UK Institutional with a dotted line to the Head of Institutional Client Strategy based in the US. You will support the creation and production of research and thought-pieces aimed at sophisticated institutional investors both in the UK and more globally in order to facilitate deeper engagement.

You will work with other areas of Janus Henderson such as the Client Portfolio Management team, Marketing and Content and understand how Janus Henderson’s investment strategies can be positioned to meet the investment needs and objectives of the institutional investors. This will primarily be an internal role but there may be some opportunities for this individual to be more externally focused in the future.

Duties and responsibilities

You will:

  • Understand Janus Henderson’s key institutional investment strategies and how these can be applied to help institutional investors achieve their investment objectives working closely with other teams as necessary
  • Through this understanding, generate ideas of how to engage with UK Institutional clients that furthers the engagement with trustees, clients and prospects supporting other members of the UK Institutional team
  • Be responsible for writing several content pieces each year from the idea inception to full completion working with other teams as necessary
  • Be responsible for developing the content and agendas for all internal and external events for the UK Institutional team, including working with investment and marketing teams to complete the presentations and other materials needed ahead of the event.
  • Be responsible for the choice of topics covered in the Quarterly Client Newsletter preparing content as required.
  • Support the broader efforts of client and prospect engagement for both UK and US Institutional clients as required
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

  • Undergraduate degree preferred
  • IMC desirable

Competencies required

  • A broad understanding of trends and issues faced by institutional investors such as pension schemes and insurance companies
  • An interest in markets and different asset classes and how fund managers can address the needs of institutional clients
  • An awareness of the issues around ESG
  • The ability to interpret and draw meaningful conclusions from complex data
  • The ability to write clearly and concisely on complex ideas

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed, in line with applicable regulatory requirements, by:

  • Annual performance appraisal
  • Completion of all assigned compliance training
  • Annual attestation (Knowledge and Competence in-scope roles only)

Compliance requirements

At a minimum the role will require you to:

  • Place the interest of Janus Henderson’s Clients first, act in accordance with TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) principles
  • Understand and follow laws and regulations applicable for your role, seeking the help of your supervising manager or Compliance if additional guidance is required
  • Understand and abide by all Janus Henderson policies applicable to your role, and seek support/guidance of the policy owner guidance when required
  • You are ultimately accountable for your actions and responsible for seeking further information on any or all of the above as necessary.

For those in scope of Knowledge & Competence (MiFID II)

  • Knowledge of financial markets, financial markets function and the impact of economic figures and national/regional/global events on markets
  • Understanding of issues relating to market abuse and anti-money laundering
  • Annual attestation
