JD Haspel is an executive search firm specialising in the financial services sector. We have four main practices: Global Banking & Markets, Asset Management & Alternatives, Infrastructure and Human Resources.

The Global Banking & Markets Practice currently covers the following business lines:

  • Corporate & Investment Banking Coverage
  • Advisory
  • Capital Markets – Debt & Equity
  • Loans & Leveraged Finance
  • Structured Finance
  • Fixed Income (Rates, Credit, FX) Sales & Trading

The role

The role of analyst is to support the marketing, execution and research functions of the practice. Specifically this will involve the following:

  • Develop a deep understanding of the areas the practice operates in (you don't need prior knowledge/experience in this industry)
  • Lead research initiatives, both on an ongoing basis to map/update certain markets and in relation to specific search projects
  • Management of client, candidate and market data  
  • Improved presentation of this data and our research product
  • Contribute to various marketing initiatives including our monthly people moves document

Career plan 

0-6 months

  • Learning the fundamentals of the search process 
  • Become a proficient user of JD Haspel systems (in particular FileFinder)
  • Develop an understanding of how clients are structured and who the key individuals are within these businesses
  • Develop an understanding of the broad banking market and how the areas covered by the GBM practice fit in
  • Shadow others within the team and observe how to engage with people in the market, build relationships and conduct research
  • Become proficient in the various data sources that feed into our research process
  • Attend meetings (internal and external) with clients and candidates where appropriate
  • Provide verbal and written commentary on prospective candidates we interview for search assignments
  • Become involved with the lifecycle of the search process 
  • Basic phone research work under direction of others in the team

6-12 months

  • Lead ongoing research initiatives, ensuring our knowledge of particular markets is up to date and accurate
  • Become a subject matter expert in the key markets we cover – who’s who, key moves and trends in the market
  • Increasing engagement with people in the market to build a source network and ongoing relationships
  • Liaise with clients and candidates to arrange meetings and ensure smooth search execution
  • Deputise in the absence of more senior team members, maintaining ongoing client contact

12 months +

  • Full client pitch preparation (e.g. market documentation, pre-pitch research, including organisational charts as well as proposal writing)
  • Ownership of key elements of the execution process. In particular, responsibility for the research phase, including desk research
  • Developing headhunting or approach technique
  • Delivery of client documentation including candidate summaries, market maps, client updates etc
  • Intensive phone work – ability to develop search strategy and identify relevant people to source

  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • IT literate with the aptitude/initiative to develop PC skills for data management and presentation. Working knowledge of Word/ Excel and PowerPoint
  • Research capability and the ability to build client and candidate relationships

  • Genuine interest in developing intellectual property in the financial services market
