About the role

Under the supervision of a Senior Project Engineer, placement interns will work on real design engineering projects within the Engineering team in Europe. The intern should expect to be given opportunities to work independently on challenges whilst also taking the opportunity to learn from Team Members around them.  The overall experience will provide a balance of working in a multi-disciplines team with the intention of providing an insight into day to day working of a progressive engineering business.  In return JLG will expect a high level of commitment and professionalism whilst conducting activities within and outside of JLG.

Academic requirements 

Must be studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Embedded Systems / Electronics / Mechatronics with an anticipated grade minimum of 2:1

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the product engineering team to design & develop solutions for new models. Interns will also work and interact with various departments
  • Identify & resolve problems by applying ingenuity to produce effective, efficient solutions to design issues
  • Develop designs from engineering & function specifications from established parameters
  • Review existing specifications & data as required
  • Consult with engineering specialists to select materials and components required for solutions
  • Develop embedded software and system architectures to control machine functionality

Preferred competencies

  • Basic understanding of software (C++, etc), control systems, sensors and electrical architecture
  • Understanding of simulation tools such as Matlab
  • Understanding of network protocols such as J1939
  • Creative thinking: you will be able to produce reliable, simple, and easily assembled solutions
  • Practical hands-on approach to engineering
  • Possess an eye for detail and a meticulous work ethic
  • Must have a high level of communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and willing to learn many other software applications that will be used throughout the design life cycle
