During the course of this programme you will have the opportunity to develop yourself and your skill set through a rotational programme that will include spending time learning about different aspects of Consumer R&D. The functional rotation may include:

  • Medical Affairs
  • Regulatory Affairs including Global CMC (Chemistry, Manufacture & Control)
  • R&D
  • London Innovation Centre

A brief summary of what these functions do is provided below

Medical Affairs - Medical Affairs professionals use their medical knowledge to help bring over the counter medicinal products to market and ensure their safe and effective use in the hands of healthcare professionals and consumers. They may be involved at any stage of development from trials to marketing, working internally with marketing, regulatory, safety and legal colleagues, and externally with important regulatory bodies.

Regulatory Affairs - Regulatory Affairs professionals are responsible for registration or placing on the market of products that meet the regulatory requirements of a country or region. Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health has a diverse portfolio of products that include Cosmetics, Medical Devices, and Medicines. The individual would learn about the framework of Regulatory Science and apply the knowledge in bringing new products to market and maintaining products already on the market. It will include interacting with a diverse range of functions within the company; Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Marketing, Business Development, Clinical Research, Toxicology, Legal Affairs, and Quality Assurance. Externally interactions may include Regulatory Authorities, Trade Associations, and Non-Governmental Organisations.

Global CMC (Chemistry, Manufacture & Control) - Is responsible for ensuring that the Company’s OTC medicinal products remain in compliance with registered information and with relevant regulatory guidelines. This is achieved by ensuring that marketing authorisations applications for new products meet appropriate requirements, and that any changes to our products are evaluated and the registration files updated by applications to regulatory authorities throughout the lifetime of the products.

R&D

R&D professionals are pivotal partners in the design, development and delivery of new products for the J&J Consumer Health global and regional product portfolio.  We work closely with marketing to identify consumer insights and create products and solutions that will meet the changing needs of our customers and consumers in our key Need State areas.

R&D functions play a leadership role in developing and managing the pipeline of products for our Need States. Core responsibilities involved in R&D roles can include but are not limited to: Assessment of new internal and external innovation opportunities, assisting with the design and delivery of appropriate regulatory (e.g. stability) and clinical studies, formulation development (e.g. taste masking, colour, palatability), analytical development (e.g. method development) and liaising with partner companies who we collaborate with to being our products to market.

London Innovation Centre

The Innovation Centre is the only regional office where all three business sectors from J&J converge. The different teams located at the London Innovation Centre are focused on identifying disruptive and transformational opportunities for the Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices and Consumer sectors primarily by working with external biotech start-ups and entrepreneurs. The Consumer team will review product technologies, new business models and digital platforms amongst other opportunity areas that are consistent with the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health business strategy. In this function an individual can expect to collaborate with small and medium size enterprises to undertake due diligence of innovations, present to business leaders, R&D functions within Consumer Health and see the output in launch on a product or technology in the marketplace.

In this programme you will gain continued professional development using internal Johnson & Johnson programme, selected external courses and you will also have the opportunity to participate in training where you will learn new leadership and technical skills, which will be combined with the opportunity to apply this business knowledge in an environment that requires launching new products and lifecycle management of existing products.
