Our Vacation Programmes are designed to help you find out more about KPMG and the different types of work we do to help clients thrive. If you participate, you’ll discover what it’s like to be part of a professional team as you explore different areas of the business.

It’s a great opportunity to develop new skills and enjoy new experiences – experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime. So, as well as kick-starting your career, you’ll get to take part in some great community activities and you’ll get an opportunity to socialise too. Above all, it’s about gaining experience on real-time, real-life projects. It's an opportunity to learn new skills, enhance your CV, learn about the world of work and, most importantly, get your foot in the door of one of the leading professional services firms.

Who’s it for?

It’s for students who are in their penultimate year of university. Your degree subject isn’t important – what matters is that you’re as ambitious and as focused on the future as we are. You’ll also be keen to take on a wide range of projects that will add value to our clients.

You’ll be with us for four weeks and usually start around June/July.

What support will I get?

We’ll give you the support of a mentor and a senior manager to make you feel at home from day one. Your mentor's role is to meet you on your first day and help you to settle in. They’ll also introduce you to your team and answer any questions you may have.

What business areas can I join?

That’s up to you. There are plenty of different business areas to choose from. Take a look below; this will help you decide which area is right for you.

What is Audit?

Audit is a profession with a rich heritage, dating all the way back to the 1400s. Whilst the fundamental principle remains unchanged – to reinforce trust – the role of an auditor and the tools we use have changed significantly.

In today’s world, auditors play a key role in providing the confidence that business and society demand. This supports investment decisions in the capital markets, confidence over the governance of public sector expenditure and the development of the country’s small and medium-sized enterprises. Audit is essential to the effective allocation of capital around the globe – powering growth, job creation, prosperity and innovation.

As every organisation is different we rely on the diversity of our workforce and their individuality to make sure we fully understand our clients’ business from every angle. This is becoming increasingly important due to:

  • the growing number of stakeholders looking to auditors to guide their decision making process;
  • the continuing evolution and importance of technology;
  • significant increases in the amount of data available to be analysed; and
  • the continuing diversity of businesses, products, customers and processes.

This, coupled with the speed at which people expect information to be available, is what makes audit a challenging and varied career.

And it won’t stop here. Key to ensuring we are able to continue to provide the assurance needed is that we’re one step ahead of our clients, so that when they change and evolve we’re ready. To do this we’re developing more predictive analytics tools and new artificial intelligence tools, allowing us to provide deeper insight and analyse complex documents.

At the heart of this is KPMG Clara, our progressive collaboration and analytics tool, which allows us to effectively collaborate with our clients, provides robust audit evidence, as well as giving us the opportunity to add real value to our clients by really getting under the skin of a business.

What is Consulting & Deal Advisory?

Our Consulting & Deal Advisory capabilities offer extremely varied and impactful work where we advise a huge range of clients on their most pressing business challenges. We need to be adaptable and agile to deliver on clients’ individual needs, from start-ups to major multinationals. You might be consulting on anything from comprehensive organisational change and growth strategies to cyber security.

We look for people who come from all backgrounds who will enjoy working on challenging commercial issues. We’ll value your fresh perspective as you work across diverse consultancy projects that pose unique challenges. You’ll be working with the brightest minds, and have the opportunity to rapidly develop your professional skills, network and career.

What is Tax, Pensions and Legal Services?

A career in Tax involves working closely with a range of clients, developing a deep understanding of their commercial issues and finding approaches that make a real difference to their bottom line. As you’ll often be tackling challenges that are at the heart of client organisations, it’s your opportunity to develop commercial insight and valuable technical skills, whilst studying for recognised professional qualifications.

KPMG’s Tax, Pensions and Legal Services practice is an excellent starting point for a successful business career, whether in company-focused services (such as Corporate Tax and Indirect Tax) or people-focused services (such as Private Client Advice, International Executive Services and Pensions). There’s no one type of person that succeeds within Tax. Everyone who works here has been selected for their individual merits. It’s our differences that bring us together and contributes to our achievements.

Our Tax and Pensions Vacation Programmes give you a great opportunity to really understand us and how, as a global business, we play to our strengths. A big part of that is acknowledging the important contributions of our people, whose diversity we embrace. Not only does that make good business sense - it makes this a great place to work too.

What is Technology?

Technology is a real area of focus for our business – as it is for clients. Take cyber security — one of the world’s biggest threats. Working with everyone from governments to blue chip clients, we’re at the forefront of developing game-changing technology that’s set to counter this ever-increasing security risk. Supporting clients through advisory, creating learning technologies to technical delivery and implementation, our vacation trainees will learn how to help develop forward-thinking solutions to interesting and important issues — from online banking and new financial technologies to large scale infrastructure changes.

Untapped potential

As one of the fastest-growing business areas within KPMG, Technology offers plenty of scope for undergraduates looking to develop a career in technology. Here, you’ll be helping to shape our offer for the future and setting the scene for why technology is an increasingly critical part of any business.

Whether you already have technical experience or just the desire to learn more about this field, you’ll definitely need a passion for technology and the untapped potential it holds for ambitious businesses.
