Our software engineers work closely with teams across the Group, creating bespoke tools that help them solve ever-changing business issues. If you’re open-minded about learning and collaborating, you’ll be supported to grow as a software engineer on this placement.

What you'll learn on the Software Engineering Industrial Placement?

From the moment you start this placement, you’ll work alongside engineers to deliver exceptional service to our customers. You could be improving our internet banking or mobile banking services. You could be learning to use Java or C#. You could also be helping to create a learning culture across the engineering community, and more. Wherever you join, you’ll be given responsibility as a valued member of the team.

Along with structured training sessions, you’ll have opportunities to build a network of colleagues and peers who can help you in your development. You’ll build your leadership skills and have the chance to volunteer for extracurricular activities, such as helping improve people’s digital skills or getting involved in hackathons. And, if you do well within our teams, you could benefit from a fast-track assessment for our Graduate Scheme.

The work you could be doing

  • Learning how to code in one or more technical languages including Java, C# and SAS, alongside others
  • Supporting the automation of processes to save colleagues and customers time
  • Helping to test new software to make sure it provides a seamless customer experience
  • Looking at mortgage journeys and finding ways to improve them for customers
  • Helping build customer service infrastructure that’s used in branch

What you need to apply 

We welcome applications from all backgrounds. To apply, you’ll need a basic understanding of at least one modern programming language or framework. You’ll also need a passion for learning and a strong desire to succeed, which could be shown through excellent A-levels, a record of achievement and initiative beyond your studies.

Our industrial placements will be based in either Edinburgh or Manchester.
