We are hiring for an Physics-Dynamics Coupling - Industrial Placement 2022 to be based in Exeter with hybrid working with a salary of £17,900 plus amazing benefits.

Job Purpose

As our Physics-Dynamics Coupling - Industrial Placement 2022 , the key duties are:

  • To undertake fundamental research to develop our operational numerical weather and climate prediction systems for future high-performance computing platforms
  • To develop the new LFRic weather and climate model so that its accuracy, scalability and robustness can be improved, to enable its implementation in operational systems
  • To investigate alternative strategies for how LFRic couples physical processes (e.g. clouds) to the fundamental fluid flow (Navier-Stokes) equations
  • To use numerical methods and carefully designed numerical experimentation to validate and improve the performance of LFRic

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Studying for a degree in a mathematical or physical science which includes an industrial placement year
  • Experience of programming or scientific computing applications, e.g. Fortran, python, Matlab
  • Evidence of the motivation, drive and initiative to overcome obstacles in order to solve scientific problems
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Evidence of working and collaborating well as a member of a team
