Life in Research, Development, Quality (RDQ)

As an intern at Mondelēz International you will be responsible and fully accountable for a given project from start to finish.  During the placement you will be expected to plan and execute experiments related to your project; produce technical reports/ presentations and periodically communicate your key findings to stakeholders.  You will also have the opportunity to interact with other departments within the RDQ (some 2500 employees) and the wider business.  In addition to this you may also be expected to support other ongoing project activities in and outside your immediate team.

The Role

The Data Sciences team is an organisation of professionals with a variety of degrees in the Science of Mathematics & Computing who have experience in guiding, educating, analysing, interpreting and strategizing for Research, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality and Marketing.  As the Data Science Industrial Placement Student, you will be working as a member of the team for 12 months. There is flexibility to work in Bournville and/or Reading. You will be provided with introductory training in Design of Experiments and Multivariate Statistics to ensure you are suitably equipped for the role.

In addition to this, you will also:-

  • Provide guidance in data collection. 
  • Become a competent user of R. 
  • Provide guidance in analyses in order to enhance the quality of technical decision making throughout the organisation. 
  • Investigate best practice techniques for various types of data, particularly in the area of variability management and multivariate statistics and create guidelines for future use. 
  • Work in an organised manner within tight deadlines to ensure that analysis is completed within expected timescales. 
  • Be able to work both with a team and independently to undertake a range of analyses  
  • Learn how the skills taught as part of a degree course are applied in the context of industry. 
  • Provide high quality customer service, to represent the Company in a professional manner.

Candidate Requirements

  • Studying towards a Data Science degree. 
  • 2:1 degree or equivalent (predicted or achieved). 
  • Techniques studying in the first and second years should include probability, programming, Exploratory Data Analysis, web development, data mining, data/database structure, data science, statistics, visualisation. 
  • You should be open to acquiring new skills and able to demonstrate strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities. 
  • Must have programming skills in at least one of R, Java, Python or C++. 
  • Naturally inquisitive and passionate about technical excellence. 
  • An ability to solve problems, initiative and flexibility. 
  • Ability to be accurate and efficient whilst under time pressure. 
  • Open to acquiring new skills and able to demonstrate strong analytical, communication and presentation abilities. 
  • Pro-active, highly motivated, ready to take on new responsibilities and build strong relationships. 
  • Strength in depth, A levels in Computing, Mathematics or Statistics preferred. 
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
