Job Description

The Role

The ESG Analyst is responsible for collecting Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) data and producing analysis on a given portfolio of companies, in line with our rating framework for the Japanese team. This team works on analysing Japanese companies belonging to different sectors and mostly reporting in Japanese language.

Responsibilities

In order to assess a company’s ESG performance, the ESG Analyst has the following responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyse all relevant Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) information of companies that are part of the different covered industry sectors
  • Establish relevant contacts with companies and their various stakeholders to obtain additional ESG information
  • Analyse and rate the ESG performance of companies and compare against sector and regional peers
  • Identify and monitor challenges and trends of the covered sectors, establishing deep sector-specific subject matter expertise
  • Produce high quality reports on ESG performance of the covered companies, using our methodological framework
  • Ensure the overall quality of the work conducted by yourself and the team
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our tools, processes and methodology for maintaining our quality standards and improving the efficiency of our activities
  • Monitor companies on an on-going basis
  • Monitor ESG market debates with a specific focus on the sector and regions covered and contribute to internal discussions
  • Occasionally support the work of other team members for Moody’s ESG (MESG) activities (translations, design of communication materials, local project support, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and/or experience in related discipline (Sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), Sustainable Finance)
  • Have a strong interest in ESG, CSR, Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) and/or sustainable development. Previous work experience in a related field is a plus.
  • Excellent Japanese and English Language skills (working language). Knowledge of other languages is desirable, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to work autonomously, under the supervision and support of a team
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office tools
  • Demonstrate analytical skills and critical thinking
  • Demonstrate time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate communication and writing skills – ability to synthesise and report information in a clear and accurate way, respecting quality expectations.
