The Role

Our industrial placements are for a period of six to 12 months, during which, you will have the opportunity to work within one of our sectors. We have civil or structural placements still available in the following areas, to be considered for these positions you must be studying civil or civil and structural engineering.

Infrastructure: Cambridge and Croydon
We need trainees with drive and passion to carry out their industrial placement in civil infrastructure engineering. Working within a project team, you’ll gain varied experience and develop core skills in highways, drainage, flood risk, public realm, earthworks and utilities coordination. Using digital modelling tools, you’ll be involved in civil engineering infrastructure designs for a wide spectrum of highways & development projects.

Tunnels: Croydon
Our Tunnels division is one of the global leaders in tunnel planning, design and construction in all conditions from soft ground to hard rock. Our team have planned and designed numerous road, rail, metro, water and service tunnels across the globe including London’s Thames Tideway East Tunnel, Northern Line Extension, Crossrail, the SMART road/water tunnel in Malaysia, Boston Central Artery in the USA, Lesotho Highlands Water Project in Africa, the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France.
We continue to be involved in many of the most interesting civil/structural and tunnel, sub-terrain, underground works and hydro-electric engineering projects.

Transmission and distribution: Brighton
Ensuring energy remains accessible to all, and that energy networks can operate efficiently and flexible, is at the core of Transmission and Distribution. As the UK push towards a Net Zero emission economy, there is rapid expansion required to those existing networks and infrastructure along with providing the existing ones with the integrity to meet these ambitious targets.
You will be immersed within a forward-thinking culture and help solve the current problems and challenges that the industry presents from these demanding projects.
This placement is for civil engineering students.

Water – Pipelines & Networks: Brighton
You will work with a team of water experts and a number of large water utility groups creating hydraulic models, and designing water supply networks, drainage and flood barriers.
The requirement for Brighton is specifically for civil engineering students our Pipelines and Networks team.

Requirements

To join us for an industrial trainee placement you must currently be at University or looking for a pre-university placement.
You’ll be working with graduates, experienced professionals, and other students so a placement with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture. It’s also a great chance to get involved with real projects while gaining relevant experience.

We do not have a formal structure for our placements, so you can really make the role your own. The more you get involved and the more questions you ask, the more you will gain from your experience with us.
As well as having one of the specific degrees listed above, we are looking for students with the following characteristics:

  • A methodical approach to problem solving
  • The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.
