We’re a global engineering, management and development consultancy. Our purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do, relentlessly focusing on excellence and digital innovation, transforming our clients’ businesses, our communities and employee opportunities. A fundamental part of this is respecting each person’s differences and striving to meet their needs.

The Role

Mott MacDonald’s Net Zero Carbon and Sustainability team is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of sustainability and carbon management professionals.

Decarbonisation of our buildings and infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges of our generation and the role offers excellent career opportunities to help drive a fundamental shift in how we and our clients develop, and deliver, projects which prioritise whole life energy and carbon performance.

As part of a dedicated team, you will be joining industry specialists already supporting clients at the forefront of net zero carbon policy and delivery programmes, throughout the UK and potentially abroad. Existing work portfolios include: building, masterplan and infrastructure sustainability appraisals; estate energy and carbon strategies; building energy efficiency programmes and net zero technology innovation programmes.

The role will be based in our Buildings and Infrastructure business unit, with offices located across the UK. The role is expected to interface with the breadth of engineering and consultancy services across Mott MacDonald, including energy, industry, cities, education, cost consultancy and project management specialists, enabling a ‘whole system’ overview of net zero carbon futures.

This will be a client-facing role and will be heavily involved in design team meetings and workshops where you will be expected to provide advice on net zero carbon, climate change, sustainability and sustainable design issues.
Through your gained experience we will be striving to get you confident in contributing to appraisals and strategies, as well as discipline integration, working closely with various project team members, working towards directly independently liaising with clients, project sponsors and key project stakeholders.

The role will be providing consultancy advice to clients and will involve:

  • Supporting in the development of technical solutions and strategies to help the Buildings and Infrastructure sector meet governmental and local net zero carbon targets
  • Technical coordination and project management across the various specialisms for carbon, sustainability and climate advisory to help deliver projects, ensuring the production of deliverables to agreed timelines and within budget
  • Development of policy, standards and frameworks regarding net zero carbon, sustainability and climate change
  • Help clients align their policies and processes to national Net Zero legislation, as well as local planning policy, helping them understand what it means for them, and how to ensure that current and future projects meet these objectives
  • Interfacing net zero carbon advisory with wider buildings and infrastructure outcome needs, such as environmental parameters to achieve enhanced social outcomes and whole life cost effectiveness in operation.

The role will include occasional travel to client locations throughout the UK, involving occasional overnight accommodation.
