Job Overview
This position will be in-person and based in our laboratories within the state-of-the-art, Francis Crick Institute, London.
We are seeking highly motivated and passionate Graduate Scientist with expertise in neuroscience, pharmacology, cell biology or a related biological sciences discipline to join the Translational Biomarker Group within Global Neuroscience Discovery for a 2-year industrial placement, to be based at the Francis Crick Institute, Kings Cross, London.
You will join a team of experts leading Biomarker research within drug discovery programmes for neurodegenerative disorders. Your project will aim to identify and validate biomarkers through analysis of cell lines derived from patients with neurodegenerative disease. You will learn a variety of cell based, biochemical and molecular methods and will benefit from access to state-of-the-art equipment, along with the necessary training and supervisory support to deliver a successful programme of research. You will also closely collaborate and interact with scientists across our global neuroscience network.
Responsibilities
- Learn and apply in vitro laboratory methods, including cell culture, molecular biology, imaging techniques.
- Plan and run experiments, deliver high quality, reproducible experimental data.
- Perform data analysis, provide conclusions, with timely write-up of reports and lab notebooks.
- Contribute to laboratory running tasks and be a conscientious, collaborative member of the team
- Keep up-to-date with literature in this field and contribute to the preparation of high quality manuscripts
- Regular presentations at internal meetings and at external meetings if the opportunity arises
Requirements
- We are seeking UK based graduates in a relevant biological science, who will complete their degree in 2024 or who have completed their degree within the last 2 years
- Hands-on laboratory experience in technique such as cell, molecular and/or biochemical assays
- Experience in designing experiments, analysing data, and interpreting results
- Experience in experimental write-up and record keeping
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Previous cell culture experience
- Knowledge of drug discovery and assay development
- Knowledge of neurodegenerative disease and cellular models of neurodegeneration
- An ability to assess the scientific literature and integrate key developments into research projects
