Finish university and start your career for real, as you join the Murphy Graduate programme at one of our offices or sites. Plunge yourself into our world, keep your eyes open for every opportunity, and in just two years, you’ll find yourself well on your way to achieving a professional qualification with support from one of the Murphy Chartered Mentors.

Who do we look for?

We need grafters who’ll get stuck into the job. Sometimes things get tough. There are lots of ups and downs in an industry like ours: projects can change; you can run into some pretty big obstacles (like, say, elephant remains on your building site). So we need people who aren’t fazed by that: you get your nose down and you work hard, whatever comes your way.

Go-getters who own their development. We support our apprentices and graduates, and we recognise their successes, but nothing’s going to be handed to you on a plate here. If you want a promotion, you’ve got to work for it, and if you want to learn something, it’s up to you to pursue it.

Above all, we need people who believe in our values:

  • Never Harm
  • Always Deliver
  • One Family, One Team, One Murphy
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Respect, Integrity, Accountability

Location

As a Construction and Civil Engineering company we have projects, big and small, based all over the UK. From Glasgow to Gosport we want you to experience as much as possible when you join our graduate programme, there are a whole host of skills and competencies we want you to gain and for that we need you to be fully flexible on location. As part of our graduate programme, we will be rotating you every 8 months around our projects so that you can maximise your learning and exposure to your field of study.

How will I learn?

In short, by grabbing every chance you get. Alongside working on some fascinating, challenging and occasionally jaw-dropping projects, you’ll also be part of our Murphy Learning programme, where everyone has ownership of their own training. You decide what skills you want to gain, with support and guidance from your manager. We call it the 70:20:10 principle, and it goes like this:

  • 70% learning on the job, challenging yourself with new projects and responsibilities
  • 20% learning through others, training and networking with senior managers, colleagues and industry leaders
  • 10% structured learning, choosing training courses that fit your needs and your team’s aims

Entry Requirements

BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent

Additional Requirements

Due to the nature of the work and size of our sites we require you to have a full clean UK driving license and your own vehicle.
