The UK is on a journey to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Decarbonising the energy sector is vital to enable the country to make this transformational change. Here in Gas Transmission, we are at the very heart of enabling this transition and to deliver on this ambition we need to build a Net Zero Energy Workforce. We’re looking for 6passionate undergraduates with a wide range of degrees, skills and backgrounds to join us in tackling the climate challenge by changing the industry from within.

If you are a successful candidate, you will join a 12-week working placement during your summer break in 2022. The programme is designed to develop your technical, commercial and business knowledge as well as your personal and professional skills. You’ll have real and challenging objectives and we’ll work with you to tailor placements to stretch you and provide real value to both Gas Transmission and wider society.

You will be in the heart of our decarbonisation journey where you could be helping us demonstrate natural gas to hydrogen conversion, facilitating legal and commercial pathways to Net Zero emissions or researching and sponsoring new and emerging technologies. . A majority stake in the Gas Transmission business is currently being sold by National Grid, so when you start with us, we’ll be own stand-alone business. This gives us an exciting opportunity to create an independent Gas Transmission business focussed on delivering net-zero and strengthens our commitment to recruit and retain people with the enthusiasm and skills required to deliver this transition. What you'll need

  • Enthusiasm and self-drive  
  • To be passionate about tackling climate change 
  • Be studying towards a degree in a relevant technical or commercial discipline. Some desirable degrees to meet our skills needs for the future are listed below, but all relevant degrees will be considered:  
    • Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or Environmental) 
    • Chemistry/Physics 
    • Mathematics 
    • Economics 
    • Computer science  
    • Business related
    • STEM Subjects 
  • A curious, questioning mind and an ability to think independently 
  • You must be in your penultimate year at university

What you'll get

The opportunity is located at our Head Office in Warwick.
