Are you a recent graduate or soon to graduate with a passion for electrical building services and sustainable design?

The role

Join Align Property Services as a Graduate Electrical Building Services Engineer and start your career in a supportive, multi‑disciplinary consultancy where you’ll gain real project experience from day one.

Based in Cumbria, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical skills while working on a wide variety of building projects that make a genuine impact on local communities.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of North Yorkshire Council, we’re one of the largest and most respected building design consultancies in the North of England. Our collaborative, forward thinking team delivers a wide range of services, including:

  • Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
  • Civil, Structural, Highways & Drainage Engineering
  • Architecture & Sustainability
  • Building Surveying & Project Management
  • Quantity Surveying & CDM
  • Transport Planning, Bridges & Estate Management

From small scale surveys to multi-million-pound developments, including schools, fire stations, care homes, and heritage buildings, our projects are as varied as our clients. With a strong and growing pipeline across both public and private sectors, there’s never been a better time to join us.

What you’ll be doing

The Cumbria team continues to deliver a dynamic and meaningful programme of work, with recent success marked by the completion of the Maryport Activity Centre refurbishment as part of a wider regeneration initiative with Cumberland Council. Building on this momentum, the team is now preparing tenders for several local projects aimed at enhancing the area for both residents and visitors. Meanwhile, our dedicated M&E team is managing £6M worth of planned Fabric and M&E maintenance across Westmorland and Furness Council’s corporate and educational estates, ensuring essential infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards.

On site, progress is underway on a vibrant café and community hub on Walney Island, the refurbishment of the Coroner’s Court in Workington, and a fresh office space for Cumbria Youth Alliance.

Additionally, the team is delivering vital school extensions for multiple local authorities, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure across the region and ensuring the buildings where our children are educated are safe, modern, and efficient.

As part of working on projects like these, your day-to-day work will include:

  • Supporting the design and delivery of electrical building services projects
  • Working alongside senior engineers on single‑discipline and multi‑disciplinary schemes
  • Getting involved in design, site inspections, surveys and client meetings
  • Developing your skills with industry‑standard software and BIM tools

What we’re looking for

  • A Degree (or HNC) in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
  • A keen interest in electrical services design and the built environment
  • Someone who is eager to learn, proactive, and ready to take ownership of your development
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team
  • A full UK Driving License with the ability to travel across the area

Why join Align?

  • Structured support and mentoring from experienced Building Services Engineers
  • Exposure to real projects across all RIBA stages, not just shadowing
  • Work as part of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary team
  • Early responsibility with guidance to build confidence and competence
  • Commitment to training, CPD and career progression towards Chartership
  • The chance to live and work in the beautiful Lake District and wider Cumbria

When you join us, you become part of a team that values your contribution. We offer a supportive, professional environment where you’ll have the tools and training to thrive. Everyone here plays a vital role in delivering the high-quality services we’re known for, and we make sure our people feel valued and respected.
