As a Robotics Intern, you will be responsible for working on novel research projects that involve fast system prototyping and experimentation. You will be required to work on bespoke problems to solve unique business issues. You will design and execute cutting edge research that has the potential to enhance or transform the way Ocado uses technology.

Currently, our focus is on robotic pick - using sensors and robotic arms to pick customers’ orders. We are proud to say this is already live at our customer fulfilment centre based in Erith, but there is still much work to be done to streamline and harden the system for widespread deployment across all of our sites. We need gifted researchers and engineers to help us optimise the throughput of the system, and to enhance the system’s functionality so we can take our robotics products to the next level.

Our ideal candidate will…

  • Be studying a relevant degree in Computer Science,AI, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or a STEM related subjects.
  • Bring a fresh outlook on smaller business projects that require attention
  • Apply own knowledge and experience to existing Ocado Tech projects
  • Approach the project collaboratively
  • Work with and experience different tech stacks to develop skills
  • Embrace Ocado Tech culture
  • Gain valuable experience in a new area of Engineering/Technology
  • Be a collaborative, entrepreneurial T-shaped person who enjoys continuous self-improvement
  • Be someone who can process complex theoretical ideas and apply them to practical systems.

Not only are we looking for talented, ‘outside the box’ thinkers, we’re also looking for people who reflect our values – people who can learn fast through experimenting; who are autonomous through taking ownership and driving innovation; we want people who will collaborate and work well in high-performing teams. We value trust, honesty, and craftsmanship.

We take on 1st year students to PHD graduates. You should...

  • Have a passion for quality coding and cutting edge technology
  • Be working towards a relevant degree
  • Be a logical thinker
  • Embody a collaborative approach to projects
  • Not be afraid to think outside of the box

We’re all about innovation and refusing to accept the status quo, so if you’re keen to push the limits of your learning – and our technology – we want to hear from you!

Our technology team creates value for Ocado in the near-term as well as the long-term by working on speculative projects that push the boundaries of what can be achieved with technology. The team provides an environment in which innovation can thrive and there is plenty of opportunity to collaborate with Ocado's specialist software and engineering teams in the UK and Ocado's development offices in Europe.
