About the Role

You will be joining a hardworking and successful team specialising Geotechnical Engineering projects across the UK, supporting our design teams delivering projects from concept onwards.

The team work collaboratively across the UK and is growing rapidly so we have positions available in our London and Wakefield offices. You will have the opportunity to work on many projects across a variety of Engineering disciplines.

One of our recent, projects is Chester-Le-Street De-culverting. The Structures, Geotechnical and Civil Engineering teams worked together to provide engineering solutions. This included an engineered embankment, retaining walls and headwalls to stabilise the opening and contain floodwater, therefore reducing the risk of flooding of the nearby residential and commercial properties.

Joining Pell Frischmann will also see you part of an expert, multidisciplinary team where you will be trained in your set discipline to enable your future progression. Additionally, you will be enrolled onto our 2-year Graduate programme as a further support in your development. This exciting programme runs across about 40 hrs per year and will enable a bigger group overview of types of work, presenting the opportunity to network with others and develop key skills such as project management, personal Effectiveness, and leadership skills.

Main Duties

  • Assisting in the design of shallow and deep foundations
  • Retaining walls design
  • Calculations of slope stability
  • The preparation of desk studies and reports

Essential

Qualifications

  • A Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant equivalent qualification

Experience

  • Exposure to Geotechnical Engineering projects or an interest in pursuing as a career

Skills

  • A full UK driving licence
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and clients, both written and spoken.
  • Good written English for reports.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and report writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work to deadlines both within teams and autonomously.

Preferred

Qualifications

  • Geotechnical MSc or other relevant Further degree
  • Be approaching or working towards chartered status (CEng / MICE).

Experience

  • AutoCAD or exposure to other design software.
  • Previous work/placement experience in an Engineering consultancy
  • Experience with a focus on the detailed design of shallow and deep foundations, embedded retaining walls, deep excavations and highway design would be an advantage.
  • Experience in ground investigation design, specification and implementation.

Skills

  • CSCS card and PTS would be an advantage.
  • A working knowledge of geotechnical software such as WALLAP, Pdisp and PLAXIS is desirable.
