    This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or under-graduate to gain a variety of hands-on and technical experience in industrial applications of pumps, motors, and rotating equipment.

    Pump Group are located in a modern facility in Trafford Park, Manchester. The Test Department is a key area for growth and investment, with in excess of £250,000 invested in the department in recent years.

    Specific in-house and external training to be given in pumps, pump testing, manufacturing, machining, and reverse engineering processes.

    The candidate will be trained to assemble, set-up, align, commission, test, and fault-find all varieties of pump and rotating equipment and operate various testing systems and methods

    This Graduate Mechanical and Project Engineer role involves active involvement and responsibility for a wide range of new and on-going projects in all areas of the company – specifically improving quality-control and efficient manufacturing techniques.

    The role will involve a wide variety of work, both hands-on, office-based, and customer/supplier related.

    About the role

    • Following initial in-depth training, the Graduate Mechanical and Project Engineer will oversee and assist planning work-activities in one of the business units from Production, Test, Quality and Commercial.
    • Analysing test results, investigating pump failures, identifying root cause analysis, providing solutions, and implementing improvements
    • Condition monitoring and analysing frequency spectra – (specific to test) investigating mechanical performance of pumps (both in-house and on customer’s sites)
    • Preparing commercial quotations for pump overhaul, testing, site activities and planning/overseeing delivery of items (customers include power stations, multi-national pump OEMs, Oil & Gas)
    • Implementing internal quality systems and procedures and developing these further
    • Key involvement in a range of other new and on-going projects
    • Developing and improving production and testing facilities
    • Opportunity for on-site test experience in petrochemical/power/Oil & Gas

    Essential Skills

    The Graduate Mechanical and Project Engineer will need:

    • solid understanding of applied Mechanical & Chemical Process Engineering and a desire to develop this further
    • a good hands-on approach to work.
    • To apply Degree level knowledge and theoretical understanding in a hands-on environment, for example, thermodynamic pump testing, inverter/motor specification and operation and Pump Affinity Law calculations.
