Security & Resilience Graduate Didcot 2021

Estates Services is a diverse department providing a wide range of professional streams to enable world-class science. Working at 7 STFC sites across the UK, operations include construction of new buildings, maintaining and developing sites inside and out, providing services such as power, lighting and water and protective security measures and response to incidents.

We are developing an approach of centres of excellence in each discipline, and understanding the needs of our complex and hazardous scientific environment. The Security team consists of a Head of Security, Site Security Managers, Security Officers and Reception staff. The team provides operational security and emergency services including visitor handling, site patrolling, incident response and much more. It also sets the standards for physical security measures and policies, and coordinates our emergency incident response capability.

We interact with everyone on our sites; more widely we work with the UKRI security functions, Cabinet Office and security agencies including the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure.

This graduate role will develop in to a security and resilience professional through on-the-job training and experience. They will lead small and medium size projects such a producing security assessments, delivering an objective in emergency planning, and other operational projects.

Your responsibilities

• Supporting the delivery of the STFC Physical Security Strategy and action plans integrating with Corporate, Estates and UKRI Security strategies
• Developing site security risk assessments and planning detailed physical security measures to comply with Government Physical Security Standards
• Development of local security policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Supporting the ongoing development of Site Emergency Plans, building capacity of people and equipment
• Coordination of operational projects such as events, installation of new security equipment
• Project management of security installations and contracted work at the appropriate level.
• Attend cross Government and other external security meetings representing STFC as required
• Personal and travel security advice for STFC
• Able to be security cleared (5 years residence in UK as a minimum)
• Engage in supported Professional Development in conjunction with The Security Institute
• Management training will be offered, familiarisation with Facilities Management and the wider organisation, in line with the STFC graduate training scheme.

What you'll need

Essential

• Obtained first degree bachelors or Masters, (not doctorate) in a relevant subject in either 2020, 2021 or be due to receive it in 2022 
• Expected or have achieved a 2:1 or above 
• The right to live and work in the UK 
• Knowledge and interest in security and/or risk management theory
• Ability to understand business context and wider environment affecting security 
• Systematic and logical approach to problem solving 
• Knowledge of current affairs and common security threats 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Desirable

• Degree subject in security, resilience, criminology, law, risk management or related subject 
• Prior experience with delivering projects or running activities in work, education or other groups
