Architecture Graduate Programme 2021

Covering six square kilometres, the site in West Cumbria is home to more than 200 nuclear facilities. A team of 11,000 people here work alongside our supply chain partners, to tackle a diverse portfolio of decommissioning, reprocessing, spent fuel management, nuclear waste management and nuclear material management.

We are developing a high-performance, value-led organisation that reduces high hazard faster, costs the taxpayer less, and responds more quickly to potential funding changes. At the same time, we are looking for ways to maximise the socio-economic benefit from our funding and supply chain spend.

Our Graduate Programme

In the two years that you’re a part of our graduate programme, we’ll give you all the support you need to achieve chartered status and the opportunity to do placements in a variety of business areas. We’ll ensure we maximise your skills, confidence and experience.

We want you to grow in every sense. Our future, as well as yours depends on you hitting the peak of your potential. We’ll invest significant resources developing your personal and behavioural skills so that you become an influential all-round professional.

We have a thriving graduate community run by an elected group of representatives who organise frequent social activities ensuring you play as hard as you work. You will also be assigned a graduate buddy who will be more of a peer support and will help you move smoothly from student to professional life.

Architecture Graduate Programme

You will typically work in a project team on either a major project, decommissioning or refit/refurbishment of our existing facilities as an architectural graduate supporting a senior architect.  Work will involve the following: Building Information Modelling, Nuclear Plant Layout, Building Envelope Design, Architectural Detailing, Environmental Design, Materials specification, Nuclear Plant Layout, Fire Safety, Security in Design.

You will also support the production of key documents across the design work stages:

• Architectural detailing and specifications.
• Production of design models / drawings using BIM compatible software packages.
• Production of Planning Application drawings.
• Demonstration of compliance with statutory regulations including Building Regulations.
• Support in the development of building layouts for conventional and nuclear facilities.

Our architectural graduate will progress through the company in accordance with the career framework and would typically become responsible for delivery of packages of work either while working on a major project or decommissioning a legacy facility or refurbishing an existing facility.

Sellafield Ltd will provide assistance and guidance with a view to gaining professional qualification with RIBA Part 3.

About you

For our Architecture programme, we are looking for graduates who meet the following requirements:

• Relevant degree discipline, such as; Architecture/Building Design/Planning etc.
• Achieved a minimum of a 2:1 classification.
• Graduated within 3 years of the programme start date (Start date: Sept 2021).

Please note: Working at Sellafield Ltd requires you to achieve both security and medical clearance throughout the on-boarding process.

Social Impact Multiplied (Six)

We are transforming our organisation, seeking to accelerate the delivery of our mission while also making significant savings for the taxpayer. As part of this change, we are determined to deliver the maximum social impact from the £2bn of taxpayer money that we spend at Sellafield every year.

Six is our new approach to social impact which prioritises projects co-created with the community and stakeholders. It recognises that more can be achieved in partnership and that impact can be multiplied through collaboration. Transforming West Cumbria will take on west Cumbria's most entrenched social and economic problems.

The programme will focus on family wellbeing, financial education, community activism, and inspiring young people. In recognition of the importance Sellafield Ltd places on delivering Social Impact, graduates will be encouraged to carry out a minimum of 10 hours of social impact activity per year.
