Summer Placements

Our 10-week Summer Placement (SP) Scheme isn’t just an opportunity; it’s a gateway to gaining substantial industry insights. Plus, following a successful placement with us, you could unlock an offer to join our graduate development programme when you have completed your studies.

As the Summer Placement Scheme and Graduate Development Scheme seamlessly align, our Graduate and Student Development Team hosts a select number of exclusive events that are open to SPs.

Legal Services Summer Placement: Risley Warrington.

We provide advice and assistance across the full spectrum of activities carried on at Sellafield: from ensuring regulatory compliance when carrying out work in the high hazard, radiologically controlled areas; to providing advice and assistance with tendering for multi-billion pound infrastructure projects in a compliant manner; to assisting the Board and the Executive deliver the Mission in a safe, secure and compliant manner.
Our legal team include specialists in commercial, employment, regulatory, planning, real estate and corporate governance. They deal with unique and challenging but rewarding work, which will not be found in any other in-house or private practice environment.

The scope may vary dependent on your experience or specialist practice areas, however you will be expected to work alongside the Legal Services team, helping them deliver high quality, pragmatic advice across the business, in to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority HM Government and stakeholders. Alongside this, our lawyers and support team are also expected to exhibit the correct behavioural attributes, have a questioning attitude and a good understanding of the basic legal principles across a variety of disciplines.

You will feel strong sense of inclusion from day 1 of joining our team. You will be given the opportunity to get involved in the delivery of client facing advice and assistance, as well as contributing to the wider Sellafield community of networks and initiatives, as well as working on your personal development.

We are looking for…

• Students currently enrolled at university studying to towards a law degree.
• Preference for those working towards a professional qualification (Solicitor or Barrister) and aiming to achieve 2:1 or above.
• Those with a strong commitment to personal and professional development.
• Candidate with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Those with enthusiasm to learn about the nuclear industry and contribute to the Sellafield mission.
• Preference for students who will be heading into their final year of study following completion of the placement, but not essential.

Please note: Working at Sellafield Ltd requires you to achieve both security and medical clearance throughout the on-boarding process.

What you will receive in return…

For Summer Placement students your competitive salary will be dependent on what age you are when you join us and be pro rata over the 10 weeks you’re with us. You’ll also receive holiday allowance that reflects your length of employment with us.

• Ages 18-20: £16,000 pro-rata
• Ages 21-22: £22,000 pro-rata
• Ages 23 and over: £23,000 pro-rata

Following a successful summer placement with us, you may secure a place on our well-respected graduate programme before you have even completed your degree.

Applications for our placement programmes will close on 24th November.

Online assessments and video interview stages will take place throughout November, December, and January.

*Please note, if you are unable to attend a virtual assessment during these months you may be unable to complete our application process.

Expected start date: June/July 2024.
