Covering six square kilometres, the site in West Cumbria is home to more than 200 nuclear facilities. A team of 11,000 people here work alongside our supply chain partners, to tackle a diverse portfolio of decommissioning, reprocessing, spent fuel management, nuclear waste management and nuclear material management.

We are developing a high-performance, value-led organisation that reduces high hazard faster, costs the taxpayer less, and responds more quickly to potential funding changes. At the same time, we are looking for ways to maximise the socio-economic benefit from our funding and supply chain spend.

Industrial Placement Programme

Our 12-month industrial placement programme is ideal for students looking to complete a placement during their time at university. The placement is designed to provide you with a flavour of what it is like to work at Sellafield Ltd and although you are only with us for a year, we can assure you that you will still feel you have made a difference.

We’re looking for students who can take on true responsibility on major projects, which will contribute to our present challenge and future mission; be involved in business-critical work and experience far reach training with support from many members of the existing Sellafield Ltd community.

As part of the Industrial Placement programme you will get the chance to take part in activities that will allow you develop your skills in line with our Graduate Programme and also allow you to obtain valuable employability skills and experience.

Safety Support Industrial Placements

The Safety Support profession is comprised of 700 Nuclear Professionals. The profession is responsible for setting policy and standards, giving competent professional advice and undertaking monitoring and assurance activities of those standards, in all aspects of Radiation Protection, Conventional Safety and Occupational Hygiene.

The remit of the profession is to support the Sellafield Site to meet its objectives for high hazard reduction whilst supporting plants through all phases of their life cycle from design, through operations to decommissioning.

Environmental Support Summer Placements

The Sellafield site focus is shifting from operations to environmental remediation: ensuring safe, secure reduction of hazard and risk driving sustainable solutions that maximise environmental, economic and societal value.

The purpose of the Environment Capability is to support the Sellafield Ltd business whilst ensuring that the requirements of our environmental obligations are met, and our environmental impact is minimised. The work of the Environment Capability includes: provision of an Environmental Management System certified to ISO14001, giving specialist advice and guidance regarding environmental compliance and improvements, interfacing with regulators to ensure environmental permits and other decisions are in place, production and management of Environment Cases and environmental assessments, and undertaking monitoring and assurance activities against environmental standards.

About you

You’ll need to be on track or expected to achieve at least a 2:1 in a STEM / Environmental based discipline and ideally will be heading into your final year of study after completion of the placement.

Our Placement Rewards

  • Annual Salary Range: £17,433 - £18,538.
  • Annual leave of 25.5 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
