This role presents a superb opportunity to gain experience working on a nationally important infrastructure project.

There will be much potential for technical solution development and implementation of automated processes and workflows to either develop QA tools or reduce the manual intervention that may be required during data entry and data verification. The GIS Analyst will be directly responsible for implementing innovative geospatial solutions within the National Highways RDP Scheme – A428 and will seek opportunities to deploy and maximise value from GIS across the entire project.

This role will provide opportunities for the successful candidate to gain a working knowledge in a range of Geographic Information Systems (Esri Suite, FME, QGIS). The successful candidate will also be exposed to existing automated processes and workflows and receive constant guidance as part of the upskilling programme and workshops that take place within the team. Lastly, the successful candidate will have exposure in the latest technologies in the geospatial world being implemented in such a project (Digital Twins, Field solutions & IoT, BIM Integration, 3D/4D in GIS).

The role involves a great deal of flexibility – you will be encouraged to experiment and explore creative solutions to the challenges faced.

What you will do

  • Assist with the development, deployment and maintenance of the Web-GIS platforms and Field GIS Apps to fulfil the needs of your immediate team and the wider project
  • Develop bespoke Web and Field GIS Solutions
  • Identify and implement the most appropriate and efficient geospatial workflows and processes. 
  • Manage data, perform updates and assist integration efforts with BIM
  • Leverage IoT and systems integration to contribute towards the project’s Digital Twin
  • Work closely with the different GIS end users, engineers, and project teams to identify problems and provide input, advice and implementation as appropriate of GIS-based solutions
  • Produce maps and manage data for the A428 project in the RDP Scheme
  • Continuously improve data – you will be motivated to investigate when errors/problems are identified within existing data
  • Metadata Creation and Management
  • Data Digitisation when necessary
  • Document workflows, creating standardised process documentation and writing guidance documents

Who you are

  • Studying towards or having completed bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geomatics, Engineering, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Data Science or Software Development
  • Proactive - the ideal candidate would continuously strive to improve available GIS data; proactively searching for new information that can be integrated into the existing data
  • Strong interest and academic experience in programming languages & spatial databases (e.g., Python, Javascript, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience gained during university in the ESRI ArcGIS Suite and Geographic Data Processing and Management
  • Effective communicator and collaborative in approach – the role will involve working with numerous people from different disciplines
  • Problem solver with facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Comfortable with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), email/internet, other IT applications.
