As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will join our HS2 team responsible for providing accurate and value generating input to the project. This role will work under the direction of a more senior Quantity Surveyor. We welcome applications from non-Construction or Commercial backgrounds and from those who graduated in Quantity Surveying some time ago but have never worked in this discipline. 

About HS2

HS2 is the UK’s new high-speed rail network and will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable, and frequent high-speed services.  Skanska in joint venture with Costain and STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £1.8billion with the works due for completion in 2025.  Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.

What you’ll do

Be responsible for cost control and forecasting and provide input to monthly reports: value, cost, profit/loss, cash flow and budget

Be responsible for preparation and agreement of applications for payment or the assessment & preparation of payment certificates.

Assist with subcontract management, including all relevant contractual forms, methods of budgetary control and relevant software applications

Ensure all notifications/documents are managed in accordance with the contract, and customer / company policy

Undertake record-keeping including but not limited to collating site records, the preparation of meeting packs, meeting invites and taking meeting minutes

Produce reports, cost downloads, pivot tables etc as directed by the Commercial Team

Check data for consistency & address any anomalies as they arise.

Understand performance metrics and measurement of KPI’s as required

Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project

Who you are

Studying to degree level or having completed a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Economics, Science, Law, English, History or similar

Naturally analytical, confident in problem solving and have excellent commercial awareness
