Graduate Bridge Engineer 2023

This role can be either full-time or part-time to suit a current university student or graduate.

The SLR Transportation Engineering team are looking for a graduate engineer to join their growing Bridges Team in Manchester to assist with a variety of challenging projects in the highways sector.

The ideal candidate will have some experience of working within a bridge engineering team, be competent in the production of design calculations and structural detailing, and also be willing to provide support to the highways engineering team when required.

The role

The successful candidate will aid the wider team and contribute to the production of design calculations and drawings for a variety of structural projects in the highways sector including bridges, retaining walls, culverts and minor highway structures such as traffic signs. The candidate will also be available to assist the highways design team with drawings production where necessary.

Candidates must be strong team players with good communication and organisational skills. A flexible approach to changing priorities as well as an ability to work accurately under pressure is also required.

Along with the array of challenging projects, support will be given to work towards professional recognition with the Institution of Civil Engineers and either IEng or CEng level dependent upon academic qualifications.

About you

We are ideally looking for someone who is BSc/BEng degree qualified in Civil Engineering or approaching graduation and have some experience of working on bridge design projects as well as experience of some of the following:

  • Detailing of reinforced concrete and steel highway structures
  • Use of AutoCAD
  • Use of Revit
  • Production of bar bending schedules
  • Use of Civil3D (advantageous)
  • Production of design calculations for highway structures
