South Wales Police is excited to launch our 2022 Intern Programme; we are looking for people with diverse skills and experiences to join our successful team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic graduate with a degree in communication and marketing or related disciplines to make a big impact on the way in which South Wales Police recruits, engages and develops our employees.

To succeed in this role you will need to be confident, hardworking and passionate about making a difference to our employees through the delivery of great communication.

You’ll work closely with the diverse teams within the Human Resources department and with the Senior Management Team as well as our colleagues in the Corporate Communications team and, amongst other activities will:

  • review, develop and update our website and other digital content to better promote accessibility, inclusion and engagement across the organisation
  • develop materials in support of improved on boarding, reward, progression and development processes that excites, supports and encourages employees
  • review and advise on our general documentation to ensure improved delivery of key messaging

Your plans will provide key stakeholders and other internal customers with well-considered advice and guidance on the best channels to share their message in a positive and effective way. Excellent written English skills (copywriting, proof reading) and verbal communication skills are essential therefore. As is the ability to adapt communication method and style to suit audience requirements.

Working within policing certainly brings its challenges – but it is also extremely rewarding.

The internship will be for 12 months and should prove an all-round stepping stone to a future career in the field as well as providing an insight into life within South Wales police and what it’s like to work for the busiest force in Wales.

About you

The programme commences September 2022 and in order to be eligible for the intern programme you will need to be studying for a degree and looking for a ‘sandwich placement’ or alternatively you will have graduated within 3 years. Please note that you cannot apply if you have already undertaken an internship with South Wales Police.

This role is not suitable for part time/job share workers due to operational requirements.

The successful Candidate must be willing to undergo vetting to MV/SC Vetting.

Please be aware that if your current post is within the Public Service Centre, if you were employed after 1st February 2017 you must have completed 2 years’ tenured service before applying for any other roles.

If you are currently involved in a PSD Investigation then you will not be eligible to apply for this role.
