About the role

We currently have an opportunity available for a Graduate to join our Regulatory team in Exeter. Joining us on a full-time, permanent basis, you will receive a competitive salary of £25,500 per annum, increasing to £30,000 over the 2 years, plus excellent benefits including relocation support and an annual bonus.

What’s it all about?

The Regulatory Graduate scheme is a 2-year programme that provides an opportunity to put your degree to good use by gaining valuable hands-on experience across a broad range of our critical business activities before looking to specialise.

Working with existing teams, the programme will comprise 6-month rotations through four of the following areas:

  • Regulatory management
  • Asset management (strategic planning)
  • Water resources & water efficiency
  • Asset performance & innovation

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting SWW’s long term strategy development and business plans
  • Understanding, interpreting and influence the regulatory and competitive framework and readying the business for it 
  • Calculating tariffs, charges and access prices 
  • Conducting cost-benefit analyses to support the development of the business plans 
  • Reporting the company's progress against its Outcome Delivery Incentives (ODIs) and associated detailed analysis/reporting where necessary to drive performance/service improvements
  • Developing and communicating expertise in regulatory economics, price setting methodologies, competition economics, estimation of the Cost of Capital and carbon accounting 
  • Providing insight into asset and service performance through detailed analytics including competitor and industry analysis
  • Management of our GIS and Asset Equipment databases
  • Water resource planning and management
  • Technical support and analysis in areas of water efficiency, demand and climate change

What we are looking for in you

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent through relevant training and experience
  • Motivated, passionate, adaptable and driven to achieve goals and objectives
  • Flexibility is important, you’ll be joining a large and busy team
  • You should expect to be taken out of your comfort zone and discover something new all the time –a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn will be key
  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, with the ability to consider data and evidence, the ability to draw out implications of different options and make recommendations
  • Have an understanding of, or interest in learning about, the regulatory aspects of the water industry
  • Able to work accurately, prioritise work and manage time effectively
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to colleagues including senior managers
